The new ship is 110,000-gross tons, 278 meters long and 38 meters wide. A second ship, the Valiant Lady, will be delivered in 2021 with her two other sister ships to follow in 2022 and 2023.
After nearly three years of construction, Scarlet Lady departed the shipyard in Genoa, Italy on Friday. In just 46 days, her first passengers will embark on the Maiden Voyage, departing from her home port in Miami.
The ships all feature more than 1,400 guest cabins for 2,770 passengers, accompanied by 1,160 crew members.
Virgin Voyages also used the delivery of Scarlet Lady to announce that the brand will be going carbon neutral as it begins service.
Not only has the fleet of ships been designed to the latest energy-efficiency standards with state-of-the art equipment, Virgin Voyages will offset its direct climate change emissions through the purchase of carbon offsets.
This commitment makes the brand the first cruise line to become carbon-neutral for its direct emissions footprint from its first day of commercial operation. The projects that will be supported by Scarlet Lady will meet high-quality, internationally-recognized verification standards, including The Gold Standard and the Verified Carbon Standard.

“It’s wonderful to welcome Scarlet Lady today,” says Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson. “I’m so proud that as we start this exciting journey, we also bring to life Virgin Voyages’ commitment to preserving the ocean and the first of many steps towards a net zero carbon future.”
Scarlet Lady will also feature the “comfort class” certification by Fincantieri, requiring minimum levels of noise and vibration, as well as by an extensive use of home automation.
By installing an app on their smartphones, guests are able to manage a wide range of cabin functions (air conditioning, lighting, opening and closing of blinds, music, and television).
The ship is equipped with an energy production system of approximately 1 MW, which uses the diesel engine’s waste heat.
In addition to a scrubber system for the waste management of sulfur dioxides, the new ship is also fitted with a catalytic converter, which reduces nitrogen oxides.
The Scarlet Lady also is entirely equipped with led lights to reduce energy consumption, while the hydrodynamic design of the hull provides excellent performance with consequent fuel saving.
