Virgin Voyages first cruise ship, Scarlet Lady, will feature social cabins able to sleep up to four and solo staterooms, and will sail four- and five-night Caribbean cruises beginning in 2020, according to the latest announcements from the cruise line.
The ‘social cabins’ will sleep up to four in a chalet-style bunk and will be among six different stateroom categories, which include XL Sea Terrace, Sea Terrace, Sea View, Insider, Social Insider and Solo Insider cabins.

Scarlet Lady will have 1,408 cabins and 93 percent will have ocean views and 86 percent will have a balcony, otherwise known as a ‘sea terrace’ by Virgin Voyages – which also calls shore excursions ‘shore things’ and vanity units ‘glam stations’.
The ship will also introduce a bed concept called Seabeds that converts from a full-sized bed to a lounger, as well as custom-designed hammocks in rooms that have balconies. Both are entirely new to the cruise industry.

The Seabeds will be found in most cabins on-board, all of which will also feature mood lighting that automatically adjusts to “enhance the time of day based on where the ship is in the world” according to Virgin Voyages.
These latest announcements come after Virgin Voyages previously revealed the design for its suite categories.
“We didn’t want to create the same old box of a bedroom that our Sailors would only use to lay their head down at night,” said Dee Cooper, Senior Vice President of Design for Virgin Voyages. “We wanted to reshape the entire cabin experience. Whether it’s sleeping, socializing or stargazing they desire, our cabins will transform to match our Sailors’ whims.”
All the staterooms will also be eco-friendly, with sensors to detect when someone has left the cabin, so that the room can go into energy saving mode – closing the blinds, turning off the lights and putting the air-conditioning on standby.
All the staterooms will also include an in-room entertainment system with a 43-inch and 4K flatscreen HDTV, mini bar, desk with mirror and flexible wardrobes, and en-suites with rainfall shower heads.
Also announced this week was the ship’s inaugural cruise itineraries, which will include four- and five-night Caribbean cruises beginning in 2020, featuring a previously announced overnight port call in Havana.

There will be a five-night Mayan Sol cruise to Costa Maya, Mexico, and a five-night Dominican Daze voyage to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. There will also be four- and five-night versions of the cruises to Havana.
All cruises will feature either an overnight stay or a late-night sailaway and include a second port of call, but Virgin has yet to reveal what that additional destination will be.
No matter the destination or itinerary, all cruises will depart from the Virgin Voyages Cruise Terminal in Miami at 7pm.
“Our research with Sailors unearthed their desire to go to places that allow for a variety of experiences,” said Diana Block Garcia, Vice President of Itinerary and Destination Development for Virgin Voyages.
“We set out on an adventure to find overnight destinations that have a combination of opportunities for high energy exploration and places for relaxation, as the perfect complement to our Virgin Voyages experience,” she added. “We have composed itineraries that have a sense of palpable culture, history and above all induce that carefree feeling that you only get while on holiday.”
Scarlet Lady’s itineraries open for booking this coming Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. The additional port of call on the Havana itineraries will be announced at the same time. Details about shore excursions, or Shore Things as Virgin Voyages refers to them, will be released in late 2019.
