Silver Wind sails under Tower Bridge during rare central London port call

Silver Wind of Silversea Cruises made a rare transit through central London over the weekend, passing beneath Tower Bridge as part of a scheduled call on the River Thames.

The vessel arrived following a 12-day voyage from Lisbon, offering a limited number of passengers a central London port experience that is increasingly uncommon due to operational constraints and river traffic considerations.

Silver Wind docked near Tower Bridge until Monday evening, providing views across the Thames and drawing onlookers to the riverbanks for what is expected to be the ship’s final call in central London for several years.

The transit itself remains a logistical event, requiring precise navigation and coordination with port and bridge authorities, as only smaller vessels are able to access this section of the Thames.

Following its London call, the ship is scheduled to continue to Edinburgh before commencing a series of voyages to Iceland and the Arctic, reflecting a broader seasonal shift towards expedition cruising in northern regions.

Later in the year, Silver Wind will redeploy to South America to operate Antarctica Fly Cruise itineraries for Silversea.

The programme will incorporate a land-based component through the line’s new hotel, The Cormorant at 55 South, located in Puerto Williams, Chile, which is positioned as the southernmost hotel in the world.

The London call forms part of Silversea’s wider deployment strategy focused on destination-led itineraries, with the cruise line operating across a global network of ports including polar and remote regions.

Calls such as Tower Bridge highlight the continued appeal of access-driven itineraries, where the ability to reach central or otherwise restricted ports is positioned as a differentiator within the luxury and expedition cruise segments.
