Crystal cuts steel for new luxury ship Crystal Grace ahead of 2028 debut

Construction has officially begun on Crystal Grace, as luxury cruise operator Crystal marked the ceremonial steel cutting of its newest ocean vessel at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy.

Scheduled for delivery in May 2028, Crystal Grace will become the third ocean-going vessel in Crystal’s fleet and is set to enter service on June 11th, 2028, with an inaugural eight-night sailing from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Fusina (Venice).

The steel-cutting ceremony marks the official start of construction and represents the latest phase in Crystal’s fleet expansion strategy following the brand’s revival under the ownership of the A&K Travel Group.

“As we look to the future, we are focused on creating ships that feel both deeply rooted in Crystal’s heritage and unmistakably modern, where space, service, and experience come together in a way that is both intuitive and extraordinary,” said Cristina Levis, CEO, A&K Travel Group.

“Crystal Grace will do that for the brand, and we are so proud that this moment with our partners at Fincantieri brings that vision one step closer to reality,” she added.

Once delivered, Crystal Grace will feature expanded accommodation, including the line’s first Owner’s Suite, alongside a range of dining concepts developed in partnership with chef Nobu Matsuhisa, three-Michelin-starred chef Massimiliano Alajmo and restaurateur Riccardo Girardi.

The vessel will also offer Broadway-style entertainment, high staff-to-guest ratios, and destination-focused itineraries.

Alongside details of the newbuild, Crystal also revealed plans for a dedicated crew recreation area aboard Crystal Grace, highlighting an increasing industry focus on crew wellbeing and onboard working conditions.

Located on Deck 12, the purpose-built facility will combine indoor and outdoor spaces designed exclusively for crew members. The 147-square-metre area will accommodate up to 100 crew and include a gym, lounge, sundries shop, bar, television area, outdoor sun loungers, and a jacuzzi.

The onboard fitness centre will operate 24 hours a day and feature Technogym equipment covering cardiovascular, strength, and group training activities.

“Our crew consistently delivers an exceptional level of service and care, and it was important to us that Crystal Grace reflects that same standard in return,” Levis said.

“This dedicated recreation space was created with real intention, a place for our team to unwind, recharge and feel supported after bringing the Crystal experience to life each day,” she added.

Additional crew facilities will include two dedicated dining areas on Deck 3.

The Crystal Grace project reinforces the cruise line’s long-standing relationship with Fincantieri, which has built several vessels for the luxury sector.
