Carnival Cruise Line has introduced a new pool complex and refreshed branding at its Roatán destination, marking the latest phase of investment in its Caribbean port portfolio.
The development at Isla Tropicale, formerly known as Mahogany Bay, includes the launch of Mangrove Bay, a 48,000-square-foot recreational area designed to expand onshore capacity and enhance the guest experience.
Located at the centre of the destination, the new area features a pool complex with a swim-up bar, a dedicated splash pad for younger guests, and a range of cabanas and loungers arranged along a peninsula layout.

Additional amenities include daybeds and adjacent bar service, reflecting a shift towards more structured, resort-style environments within private cruise destinations.
The introduction of Mangrove Bay coincides with the unveiling of a new visual identity for Isla Tropicale, aligning the destination more closely with Carnival’s broader brand positioning and portfolio of exclusive ports.
“Isla Tropicale marks another exciting investment in the largest group of exclusive cruise destinations, Paradise Collection by Carnival,” said Christine Duffy, President, Carnival Cruise Line. “New features, including the destination’s first pool area, will elevate the guest experience at Isla Tropicale.”
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Roatán and Honduras and expanding our positive economic impact in the region,” she said.
The destination currently features two berths capable of accommodating larger vessels, including Excel- and Vista-class ships, alongside retail, dining, and recreational facilities.

These include 52 shops, local artisan kiosks, three restaurants, four bars, a scenic chairlift, and ocean-view cabanas.
Since opening in 2009, the port has received approximately nine million visitors and generated an estimated US$750 million in economic impact, supporting more than 1,300 local jobs.
“Isla Tropicale reflects the continued importance of cruise tourism to Roatán and to Honduras,” said Andrés Ehrler, Minister of Tourism, Honduras. “We value partnerships that support local jobs, create opportunities for businesses and help strengthen Roatán’s position as one of the Caribbean’s most welcoming destinations.”
The site has also received environmental recognition, with its beach awarded the Honduras Blue Flag designation and a five-star rating in both 2024 and 2025 for standards including water quality, safety, and sustainability.
The expansion reflects a wider trend among cruise operators to invest in private and controlled destinations, allowing greater management of the guest experience and keeping guest spending within the cruise line’s ecosystem, while supporting local economic development.
