Cordelia Cruises has confirmed that the former Norwegian Sun will begin operations in India in November 2027, expanding the line’s growing three-ship fleet.

The vessel, currently sailing as Norwegian Sun, is scheduled to begin its inaugural season on November 1st, 2027, following its departure from Norwegian Cruise Line at the end of September.

According to the published deployment on the Cordelia Cruises website, the 2,000-passenger ship will operate a programme of short cruises from Mumbai, with itineraries ranging from two to five nights.

The maiden voyage will be a four-night roundtrip sailing from Mumbai, calling at Agatti Island in Lakshadweep. Following this inaugural sailing, Cordelia Sun will continue offering cruises to destinations along India’s west coast, including Agatti Island, Mormugao in Goa, and Cochin.

The deployment also includes two-night cruises to nowhere, featuring a full day at sea before returning to Mumbai, while selected itineraries will allow passengers to embark or disembark in Goa and Cochin.

The currently published schedule extends through April 2028.

The addition of the Cordelia Sun follows the cruise line’s acquisition of Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky in April 2025, significantly expanding its fleet beyond its original vessel, Empress, the former Empress of the Seas of Royal Caribbean.

The three-ship fleet is expected to strengthen the line’s presence in both the Indian cruise market and selected Southeast Asian destinations.

Norwegian Sun entered service in 2001 as part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Sun-class and has operated itineraries across Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia, and South America during its 26-year career.

Before joining Cordelia Cruises, the ship is scheduled to complete a final European season for Norwegian Cruise Line during summer 2027.

The expansion follows the arrival of the former Norwegian Sky, which is set to become Cordelia Sky later this year.

According to previously announced deployment plans, the vessel will begin service for Cordelia Cruises on October 23rd, 2026, initially offering short cruises from Mumbai, Goa, and Cochin before expanding into longer Southeast Asia itineraries during 2027.

Cordelia Cruises launched operations in late 2021 with the former Royal Caribbean International ship Empress of the Seas, introducing year-round domestic cruising from Indian ports for the first time.

The cruise line has since expanded its network of embarkation ports and itineraries as India’s cruise tourism sector continues to grow, supported by government investment in port infrastructure and a broader strategy to develop the country’s cruise industry.
