Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has signed an agreement with Fincantieri for the construction of three additional cruise ships, one for each of its brands, extending the group’s fleet expansion plans into the late 2030s.
The order covers vessels for Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. All three ships will be built at Fincantieri shipyards in Italy and are scheduled for delivery between 2036 and 2037.
Each vessel will be designed as a sister ship within existing classes. The Oceania Cruises ship will follow Oceania Sonata, while the Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessel will be a sister to Seven Seas Prestige. The Norwegian Cruise Line vessel will join the company’s previously announced newbuild series.
“Together with Fincantieri, a trusted partner for decades, we continue to advance a disciplined approach to fleet growth that builds on the strength of our brands, defines the future of cruising and elevates the guest experience for years to come,” said John W. Chidsey, President and Chief Executive Officer, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
“This agreement secures access to valuable shipyard capacity through the end of 2037, supporting our long-term growth while maintaining financial discipline and driving sustainable shareholder value,” he added.
The company indicated that the agreement is structured to minimise near-term financial impact. Pre-delivery payments are expected to remain limited until the ships approach completion, and the group plans to fund the majority of construction costs through export credit agency financing upon delivery.
Following the new order, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings now has 17 ships on order across its brands. The pipeline includes eight ships for Norwegian Cruise Line through 2037, five for Oceania Cruises, and four for Regent Seven Seas Cruises scheduled through 2036.
The broader fleet development plan is projected to support an estimated compound annual growth rate of approximately four per cent between 2026 and 2037, reflecting a gradual expansion strategy rather than rapid capacity increases.
The company also confirmed that some forthcoming vessels in its Prima Class programme are being lengthened and reconfigured to accommodate the potential future use of green methanol as a marine fuel. Additional technical modifications would still be required before such fuel could be used operationally.
Several ships in the current orderbook are already approaching delivery, including Norwegian Luna, expected in early 2026, and Seven Seas Prestige later the same year.
Additional ships for Oceania Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line are scheduled throughout the late 2020s and early 2030s as part of the group’s phased expansion.
