Silversea World Cruise 2026 places South Africa at centre of 140-day global voyage

Silver Dawn has departed on her 2026 World Cruise, a 140-day global voyage that showcases South Africa within one of the most extensive itineraries ever undertaken by Silversea, visiting 59 destinations across 30 countries and six continents, concluding in Lisbon on May 27th, 2026.

The voyage brings Silversea’s guests through Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and the western Indian Ocean before reaching the southern tip of Africa and proceeding north along the continent’s west coast, reinforcing South Africa’s position as a central waypoint in world cruising.

“With ‘The Curious and the Sea,’ we have created a journey that celebrates the essence of exploration,” said Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea. “From exclusive cultural celebrations to extraordinary culinary moments, this voyage is designed to spark curiosity and deepen connections with the world’s diverse cultures and landscapes, all delivered with the personalized service that defines Silversea.”

Guests departed from Fort Lauderdale following a themed Bon Voyage event at the Boca Raton hotel, where a 1920s celebration marked the start of the voyage. From Florida, the route leads through Central America and the Panama Canal, before continuing to Ecuador and Peru, Easter Island, French Polynesia, and the South Pacific.

The itinerary then progresses through New Zealand and includes a semi-circumnavigation of Australia, a first for a Silversea World Cruise, before moving into Southeast Asia.

From Asia, the voyage crosses the Bay of Bengal to Sri Lanka and India, before turning south toward South Africa. The African segment includes a series of calls along the continent’s west coast, placing Cape Town as one of the voyage’s central ceremonial highlights.

On May 3rd, guests will attend the exclusive Diamonds are Forever event in Cape Town, inspired by the Cullinan Diamond, the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found (3,106 carats), discovered in South Africa in 1905 and named for mine owner Thomas Cullinan. The evening at the Vergelegen Conservatory features a bespoke menu by nine-time Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, accompanied by orchestral music, swing band performances, and dance shows.

Major cultural events on The Curious and the Sea World Cruise 2026:

Polynesian Dreams, Motu Tapu, French Polynesia — February 7th: Guests experience Polynesian seafaring traditions on the sacred island of Motu Tapu, with local cuisine, traditional dance and cultural ceremonies

The Magic of Mystery Island, Mystery Island, Vanuatu — February 17th: A programme of regional dance rituals, island cuisine and snorkelling in the waters surrounding Mystery Island

From Paddy to Plate, Benoa, Bali — March 26th: A culinary and cultural event at the Tanah Gajah resort, featuring regional cuisine, Balinese performances, manuscript writing and activities exploring the history of rice cultivation

The Exotic Marigold and More, Cochin, India — April 12th: Includes a tuk-tuk tour, ceremonial welcome with flower garlands, Kerala drumming and martial arts performances, a traditional Sadhya lunch served on banana leaves, and a houseboat cruise through the backwaters

Diamonds are Forever, Cape Town, South Africa — May 3rd: An evening at the Vergelegen Conservatory inspired by the Cullinan Diamond, featuring a bespoke menu by Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, orchestral and swing music, and dance performances

A Feast of Flowers in Funchal, Funchal, Madeira — May 23rd: Begins at Funchal’s Central Market during the annual Flower Festival, followed by a garden reception at Quinta Magnolia with local artisan products, folk music and a four-course dinner

Throughout the voyage, Silversea’s culinary programme has been expanded through partnerships with guest chefs and local culinary ambassadors, delivering bespoke menus, S.A.L.T. Talks, and S.A.L.T. Lab classes across ports including Lima, Melbourne, and Singapore. During the West Africa segment, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will join the ship to provide live performances.

Silver Dawn, one of Silversea’s newest vessels, offers ocean-view suites, all-inclusive dining, and dedicated butler service across every suite category.

Looking ahead, Silversea has already outlined future world cruises. The 2027 programme, The Three Oceans, will explore the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, including experiences at Victoria Falls and in Belfast.

In 2028, An Ode to the Moment will offer a 132-day itinerary covering Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, with visits to more than 30 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Together, these voyages reinforce the strategic role of both South Africa and the Middle East within the expanding geography of ultra-long cruise itineraries, as cruise lines continue to design routes that treat these regions as integral corridors in global exploration.
