Hapag-Lloyd debuts new music and meditation aboard MS Europa South Africa cruise

A South Africa-bound voyage by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will once again serve as the setting for a returning onboard programme combining classical music and mindfulness.

The move follows its initial introduction last year, bringing together live classical performances and structured meditation sessions, designed to run in parallel across the voyage.

The 12-day sailing on board MS Europa will depart Santa Cruz on November 6th, 2027 and conclude in Cape Town on November 18th, 2027, with the “Classical Music meets Meditation” format forming a central part of the onboard programme throughout the crossing.

The format was first introduced in 2026 and is being reintroduced following strong guest response, with the 2027 sailing building on that initial framework.

“What makes Classical Music meets Meditation so special is the direct interplay between a classical ensemble and guided meditation – an experience that is unique at sea in terms of its intensity and setting,” said Lisa Wilken, Head of Luxury Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

“The positive feedback has shown us just how much of an impact the format has on our guests. That’s why, following last year’s resounding success, we are bringing Classical Music meets Meditation back to the EUROPA in 2027,” he added.

The programme will again feature the Swiss ensemble CHAARTS, alongside soprano Marlis Petersen and Italian composer and violinist Francesca Guccione. Performances are structured to take place in smaller settings, aligning with the ship’s capacity of approximately 400 guests.

Yoga and meditation forms part of the wellness offerings onboard

In addition to concerts, the programme incorporates a series of guided sessions focused on breathwork, meditation, and physical movement. Three practitioners specialising in yoga, meditation, and bodywork will lead daily sessions, with activities designed to range from slower, meditative formats to more physically demanding routines.

The structure of the programme integrates these elements across the duration of the voyage, with music and mindfulness sessions scheduled to complement one another rather than operate as separate activities.

Organisers describe the intent as creating a continuous sequence of experiences across the crossing, rather than a series of standalone events.

The voyage itself forms part of MS Europa’s broader long-haul deployment pattern, linking Atlantic island itineraries with southern Africa.

The inclusion of a themed programme on the Santa Cruz to Cape Town sector reflects a wider approach by operators to align onboard programming with extended sea days, where passengers spend prolonged periods at sea between port calls.
