Hapag-Lloyd offering cruises to and from Cape Town aboard Europa for 2027

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will offer a series of voyages to and from Cape Town aboard Europa in late 2027, linking Southern Africa with Atlantic and Indian Ocean itineraries.

The programme includes a 12-night sailing from Tenerife to Cape Town departing November 6th, 2027, followed by a 15-night roundtrip itinerary from Cape Town exploring the South African and Namibian coasts, and a further 15-night voyage from Cape Town to Mauritius in December.

The initial repositioning voyage from Tenerife to Cape Town incorporates the Classical Music meets Meditation programme, aligning with a series of themed sailings developed for the ship’s long-haul deployment.

Europa

From November 18th, 2027, Europa will operate a 15-night roundtrip cruise from Cape Town, calling at Lüderitz and Walvis Bay in Namibia before returning to South Africa with calls in Port Elizabeth, Durban, and Mossel Bay.

The itinerary is structured to combine Namibia’s desert coastline with multiple South African ports, forming a regional circuit that returns to Cape Town on December 2nd, 2027.

A subsequent 15-night sailing departing December 3rd, 2027 links Cape Town with the Indian Ocean, calling at Mossel Bay, Port Elizabeth, Durban, and Richard’s Bay before crossing to Madagascar and Réunion, and concluding in Port Louis, Mauritius.

The routing reflects a broader pattern of linking Southern Africa with island destinations in the southwest Indian Ocean, typically operated as part of longer seasonal deployments.

The Cape Town calls form part of Europa’s wider global itinerary structure, where the vessel transitions between European, African, and Indian Ocean deployments during the winter season.

V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

The inclusion of both turnaround and transit calls in Cape Town highlights the port’s role as a logistical and operational hub within these itineraries.

With capacity for fewer than 400 passengers, Europa operates within the luxury segment, with itineraries structured around longer port stays and smaller-scale shore programmes. The Southern Africa sailings follow a format consistent with the line’s broader deployment strategy, combining coastal cruising with multiple regional ports.

The inclusion of Namibia and multiple South African ports within a single itinerary reflects continued interest in the region as a cruise destination, particularly for longer voyages where a combination of wildlife, coastal landscapes, and established port infrastructure can be accessed within a single sailing.

The Cape Town to Mauritius itinerary further extends this model, linking Southern Africa with Indian Ocean destinations that are less frequently included in shorter cruise programmes. Ports such as Fort Dauphin in Madagascar and Saint-Denis in Réunion form part of a route that combines mainland and island destinations within a single voyage.

The deployment of Europa in the region forms part of a broader trend among luxury operators to position smaller ships on longer, multi-region itineraries, using ports such as Cape Town as key turnaround points within global routing.
