Legend of the Seas rendering
Royal Caribbean International has brought forward the entry into service of Legend of the Seas, with the ship’s maiden cruise now departing from Civitavecchia on July 4th, 2026, a week earlier than originally scheduled.
The third vessel in the Icon class had previously been due to enter service on July 11th, 2026, operating a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise.
The newly added July 4th sailing will now serve as the ship’s inaugural voyage, marking the start of its first summer season in Europe.
“Building such a large and incredible ship is no easy feat, but lucky for us, there are times when we get to embark on our new ship ahead of schedule,” Royal Caribbean said in a letter to booked guests. “We simply cannot wait to show off The Next Icon of Vacations, the Legend of the Seas, with one extra sailing, a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise.”
Guests booked on the originally scheduled July 11th sailing are being offered the option to move their reservation to the earlier departure. “Not to worry, our July 11 sailing that is part of our showcase will still take place, but we wanted to give you an exclusive opportunity to join us for this new sailing,” the letter added.
Bookings transferred to the new date will be moved into the same suite or a like-for-like stateroom at no additional cost, subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cruise fares will either be protected at the original booked rate or adjusted to the current fare, depending on which is lower, while taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items will be applied at prevailing rates.
For guests who booked flights through Royal Caribbean’s Air2Sea programme, assistance will be provided to adjust travel arrangements.
Those who arranged non-refundable air or hotel accommodations independently will be eligible for reimbursement of travel change fees of up to US$200 for domestic travel or US$400 for international travel per person.
Legend of the Seas is currently in the final stages of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.
The vessel is scheduled to operate seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Civitavecchia during summer 2026 before repositioning to North America later in the year.
Following its European season, the ship is set to debut in the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale in November 2026, operating six-night Western Caribbean itineraries and eight-night Southern Caribbean sailings.
Legend of the Seas will also become the company’s fourth LNG-powered ship and will feature environmental systems including waste heat recovery and shore power connectivity, aligning with Royal Caribbean Group’s longer-term decarbonisation targets.
