Royal Caribbean International announces early delivery for new Legend of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International has announced that its newest Icon-class vessel, Legend of the Seas, will enter service earlier than expected, with three additional weeklong preview cruises now added to its inaugural season.

According to a statement sent to booked passengers, the third ship in the Icon class will debut on July 11th 2026, three weeks earlier than its original launch date of August 2nd.

“Our teams have been working diligently to deliver an iconic family holiday, and the ship is progressing ahead of schedule,” Royal Caribbean said. “As a result of this early completion, we’ve added three new sailings to our inaugural season showcase.”

The added cruises will depart on July 11th, 18th, and 25th, 2026, sailing from Civitavecchia, near Rome. Each weeklong itinerary explores the Western Mediterranean, with calls in Naples, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Marseille, before returning to Italy.

Royal Caribbean is offering flexibility to passengers already booked on the previously announced inaugural voyage. Travellers may move their reservations to one of the new preview cruises, add an additional sailing, or retain their current booking for the official inaugural departure.

“Understanding that some guests may value being the first onboard, and others look forward to celebrating the inaugural voyage, we want to give you the first choice and flexibility,” the company explained.

Legend of the Seas is the third in the revolutionary Icon-class lineup, designed to deliver the boldest experiences yet across eight distinct neighbourhoods. Highlights include the Category 6 waterpark, the largest at sea, and Crown’s Edge, a mix of skywalk, ropes course and thrill ride suspended high above the ocean.

Alongside the adrenaline, guests will find a wide range of new dining and drinking venues, as well as dedicated areas for families to spend time together or apart.

The ship will sail its inaugural Mediterranean season before repositioning to the Caribbean in November 2026. There, it will offer six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries, including calls at Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamian destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Legend will also be Royal Caribbean’s fourth LNG-powered ship and will feature advanced environmental technologies such as waste heat recovery and shore power connectivity, supporting Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to introduce a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

By advancing the launch date and expanding its inaugural programme, Royal Caribbean is aiming to capitalise on peak summer demand in Europe while giving eager passengers more opportunities to experience its newest flagship earlier than expected.
