Norwegian Viva delayed again until late August, six cruises cancelled

Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled an additional six cruises aboard its upcoming ship Norwegian Viva, pushing her debut back to late August, 2023.

Norwegian Viva is the second in the cruise line’s new Prima-class line-up, a sister ship to Norwegian Prima, which was delivered earlier this month.

Norwegian Viva was initially meant to debut in June next year, but her delivery was pushed back to August due to construction delays.

Norwegian Cruise Line has cited construction delays again in announcing this new delay to the ship’s delivery, and has cancelled an additional six cruises.

The 142,500 gross ton ship will now enter service on August 23rd, 2023, according to a press release from Norwegian Cruise Line.

“Given the global supply chain constraints impacting industries worldwide, including the maritime industry, we must cancel Norwegian Viva’s sailings from July 3, 2023 through and including August 17, 2023,” Norwegian said in a statement.

The cancelled departures included itineraries in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean – where the Norwegian Viva is set to spend most of its maiden season. Passengers affected by the cancellations are being offered two different options.

The first, gives them a 20% discount on the cruise fare already paid, with their booked cruise replaced by a comparable itinerary aboard Norwegian Getaway instead of Norwegian Viva.

These replacement bookings would include an equivalent stateroom category, keeping all of the guest’s previously selected promotions.

The second option, is for guests to cancel the reservation and rebook at a later date. To do this, guests must contact the cruise line to avail of a full refund.

Regardless of the option selected, all impacted passengers will receive a 10% discount on their next cruise.

According to the company, the offer can be combined with all available promotions at the time of the booking and must be used towards sailings from August 23rd, 2023 through December 3rd, 2024.

The second vessel in Norwegian’s ambitious new six-ship Prima-class, Norwegian Viva shares many design aspects in common with her sister ship, the Norwegian Prima, including the expansive Ocean Boulevard that wraps around the entire ship, the huge Haven ship-within-a-ship luxury enclave, and a 1,378-foot go-karting track.

Other notable amenities include the 11 restaurants of the Indulge Food Hall, several infinity pools and the simulator-packed virtual world of the Galaxy Pavilion.
