Dubai has so much to offer cruise tourists visiting for a day or two, and while the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountains and Dubai Mall will remain a major draw for years to come, these new tourist attractions will add some diversity for those looking for something a little different.

The 2020/21 Middle East cruise season is going to be the busiest on record with 11 cruise ships from 10 cruise lines home-porting in Dubai and sailing round-trip from the city in the Arabian Gulf.

It’s also going to be one of the biggest years for new landmarks and tourist attractions opening in the city. Here are the 8 top new attractions set to enhance Dubai’s appeal as a cruise hub even further in the coming year.

Dubai Stars

Opening in late 2019, Dubai Stars will be four times the size of the Hollywood Walk of Fame with 10,000 celebrities’ stars lining the boulevard in Downtown Dubai. The first phase will open with 400 stars decided by the public on October 20^th, 2019. Actors like Rami Malek and Will Smith, and singers Chris Martin and Nancy Ajram and sports stars Lionel Messi and Mo Salah have been confirmed thus far. City Land Mall

Opening in late 2019, Cityland Mall wont rival Dubai Mall for size, but it will be one of the most unique in the world for a different reason. It’s being developed by the same people behind Dubai Miracle Garden and Dubai Butterfly Garden and will be the world’s first “nature-inspired” shopping mall, with botanical wonders among the shops and restaurants. The mall’s Carrefour anchor store is already open and the mall is expected to be fully open by the end of 2019.

Sky Walk

Opening early 2020, Skywalk will rival the Dubai Frame for glass bridge thrills with a glass walkway that lets you walk around a skyscraper 200 metres in the sky. The Sky Walk will wrap around the top of the soon-to-open Address Sky View hotel in Downtown Dubai. It was first announced in September 2017, and although no opening date has been given, the hotel is accepting reservations from November 1st this year.

The View

Opening 2020, The View will provide views of Dubai from a panoramic deck 240-metres high above the Palm Jumeirah. The View at The Palm is a public observation deck that will allow guests to see panoramic views of the Palm Jumeirah and beyond from the 52nd floor. It’ll be accessible via the soon-to-open Nakheel Mall on the Palm, which will be just a few minutes from Dubai’s second cruise port, Dubai Harbour, which will open next to the Palm.

Ain Dubai

Opening 2020, the world’s tallest Ferris wheel Ain Dubai will be the centerpiece landmark of the new Bluewaters island off JBR next to Palm Jumeirah. Ain Dubai will be completed in time for Expo 2020 celebrations according to Meraas, which is also developing Dubai Harbour. It’ll be more than 250-metres high and will accommodate 1,400 people in 48 glass gondolas. Some of the gondolas will be bookable as private fine-dining pods for up to 12 guests. Six of them will also be licensed bars.

Zombie Apocalypse Park

Opening 2020, the Zombie Apocalypse Park will be located in The Night Market on the Deira Islands near the Dubai Cruise Terminal in Port Zayed. It will be a giant 65,000 square foot entertainment zone themed around the living dead, with 12 attractions including a haunted house, axe throwing, archery, haunted corn maze, trampolines, target shooting, zombie apocalypse attack and more.

Madame Tussauds

Opening 2020, Madam Tussauds will also be located on Bluewaters island off JBR. While details about who might be featured in the first Middle Eastern location are scant, Madam Tussauds typically features a range of celebrities including singers, actors, politicians, sports stars and historical figures. In celebration of the UAE’s Year of Tolerance in 2019, there are likely to be historical figures from the world’s varied cultures.

Museum of the Future

Opening in 2020, you can’t miss the Museum of the Future when you ride up Sheik Zayed Road from Bur Dubai towards Jumeirah. It will sit in front of Emirates Towers and the striking silver structure in the shape of an eye will house exhibits and experiments that look to the future. At the time it was announced back in 2015, Sheikh Mohammed, the Ruler of Dubai, wrote on Twitter: “Today we have launched Museum of the Future, featuring innovation labs and a permanent exhibit for future inventions. Museum of the Future is integrated environment empowering creative minds to test, fund and market ideas for futuristic prototypes and services. It is a first step of many to come, marking the beginning of great achievements”.
