Voyager of the Seas to get $97m refurbishment ahead of her return to Australia

Royal Caribbean International has announced plans to fully refurbishment the 20-year-old Voyager of the Seas, the lead ship in the Voyager-class and the first to sent to Australia following a Royal Amplified refit.

Among the new at-sea attractions debuting aboard Voyager of the Seas are the Perfect Storm duo of racer waterslides, a reinvigorated Vitality Spa and redesigned kids and teens spaces, as well as 72 new inside and balcony staterooms.

“Voyager will be the fourth ship reimagined as part of the Royal Amplified fleet modernization effort built on research and guest feedback. The cruise line’s investment of more than $1 billion spans 10 ships in four years and touches every facet of the guest experience,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement.

Following her refurbishment, Voyager of the Seas will also feature the new Royal Caribbean International mobile app.

The ship will go into dry-dock later this year, and will emerge on October 21^st to sail a series of 3- to 5-night Southeast Asia itineraries from Singapore, followed by a season down under with 9- to 12-night South Pacific cruises from Sydney, starting on November 30^th.

New outdoor attractions

The hugely popular Perfect Storm waterslides will be added on deck. Spanning three decks, the slides feature various twists and turns over the ocean, designed to thrill or terrify, depending on your perspective.

These new slides will join returning favourites, such as the FlowRider surf simulator, rock-climbing wall and mini-golf.

New family facilities

Voyager of the Seas will also debut enhanced facilities for families, including the line’s Battle for Planet Z laser tag arena. The glow-in-the-dark adventure in Studio B has quickly become a staple of the line and takes place in a universe of the distant future as two groups of thrill seekers – aliens and robots – go head to head to claim the last planet of a far-flung galaxy.

Younger guests, ranging from babies to teens, will enjoy a top-to-bottom redesign of their dedicated spaces. A fresh take on the award-winning Adventure Ocean, for kids of 3 to 12 years old, brings a modern, free-play approach to a new, open layout with whimsical activities at every corner.

For the first time on Voyager of the Seas, a nursery will be introduced for guests younger than 3, including babies.

Teen passengers will also get an updated hangout with the addition of a laidback outdoor deck.

New relaxation spaces

The Vitality Spa and Fitness Centre will be enhanced and relocated to the aft of the ship. The spa and gym will offer its extensive, signature menu of services, including massages, acupuncture, manicures, fitness classes and personal training.

The solarium on the pool deck will also be refreshed and made adults-only.

More highlights to make their way to Voyager of the Seas include 72 new inside and balcony staterooms, a Suite Lounge and outdoor area – exclusively for guests in Grand Suites and above; and the Diamond Lounge for members of Royal Caribbean’s Crown & Anchor Society loyalty program.

The reimagined ship will also feature the new Royal Caribbean International mobile app, through which guests can check in for their cruise vacation from their phone, and once on board, use an array of capabilities, such as planning activities for each day of the itinerary, and viewing onboard expenses, to booking and managing dining, shore excursion and show reservations.

Royal Caribbean will homeport Jewel of the Seas in Dubai for the 2019/2020 and 2020/21 cruise seasons, although she is not one of the ship’s undergoing the Royal Amplified refurbishment.
