Mi Casa Friendship Cruise to return in 2027 with Durban sailing aboard MSC Armonia

Mi Casa’s Friendship Cruise will return in February 2027 from Durban following a sold-out 2026 edition departing Cape Town.

The 2026 edition of the Mi Casa Friendship Cruise has concluded following a three-night sailing aboard MSC Opera from April 14th to 17th, 2026, departing Cape Town. The voyage combined live music, comedy, and themed events across multiple venues on board, with a programme curated by South African trio Mi Casa.

The sailing featured performances from a mix of local artists and DJs, including DJ Fresh, DJ Ready D, Tyrone Paulsen, Don Vino, and Rowlene, alongside comedy sets from Mpho Popps, Yaaseen Barnes, and Kagiso Mokgadi. The programme was structured across several stages and time slots, with events extending into late-night and early morning sessions.

MSC Opera departing Cape Town

Mi Casa opened the cruise with a four-track set on embarkation, with subsequent performances and themed events scheduled throughout the voyage. Activities were designed to move between indoor and outdoor venues, including pool decks and lounges, with a mix of live music, DJ sets, and interactive events.

The cruise followed a format increasingly adopted in the regional market, where short-duration sailings are used as platforms for themed entertainment. These voyages typically combine onboard programming with standard cruise amenities, including dining, accommodation, and leisure facilities, to create a hybrid event and travel product.

On board MSC Opera, passengers had access to a range of facilities including restaurants, bars, pools, and spa areas, allowing for a balance between scheduled entertainment and general cruise activities. The three-night format also reflects a broader trend towards shorter, experience-led sailings designed to attract both repeat cruise passengers and first-time guests.

Following the completion of the 2026 sailing, organisers have confirmed that the Friendship Cruise will return in February 2027, with a revised itinerary departing from Durban aboard MSC Armonia.

The popular at-sea music event will return in 2027 out of Durban

The next edition is expected to include a sailing to Mozambique, marking a shift from the previous Cape Town departure and Atlantic routing.

MSC Armonia is a sister ship to MSC Opera, and will be homeporting in Durban and Cape Town for the first time during the 2026/27 South African cruise season.

The change in homeport expands the geographic scope of the Mi Casa event and aligns with broader cruise deployment patterns along the South African coastline, where Durban serves as a key gateway for Indian Ocean itineraries.

The move is also expected to support wider participation by drawing from a different regional catchment area.

While details of the 2027 programme have yet to be finalised, organisers have indicated that the event will build on the existing format, with additional elements and expanded entertainment offerings under development.
