Holland America Line’s Westerdam has returned to service following the completion of a two-week refit and refurbishment in Singapore.
The 2004-built ship underwent a combination of routine maintenance, technical work, and targeted upgrades to selected public areas.
In addition to cosmetic and technical improvements, the refit included a modest increase in passenger capacity through the addition of new staterooms.

According to updated deck plans, Westerdam has added a total of 11 new staterooms, increasing the ship’s capacity by 22 lower berths.
Six of the new cabins were created on Rotterdam Deck, where former technical spaces located in the forward superstructure were converted into ocean-view staterooms. A further five cabins were added on Deck 1 through a similar reconfiguration of technical areas.
The additional staterooms bring incremental capacity growth without altering the ship’s overall layout or operational profile, reflecting a broader industry trend toward optimising existing tonnage through selective reallocation of non-revenue-generating space.
Beyond accommodation changes, the 82,348-ton vessel also received several updates to its public areas. Among these is the addition of a Merabella Fine Jewelry store on Promenade Deck, located adjacent to the existing Effy Jewelry outlet.
The move expands the ship’s retail offering while consolidating luxury shopping into a defined area of the promenade.
The ship’s casino has also been enlarged as part of the drydock, with the gaming area expanded into the space previously occupied by the Gallery Bar on Deck 2, reflecting continued demand for casino space on longer itineraries and in destination-intensive regions, where extended evenings at sea often support higher onboard engagement.
Westerdam has now resumed service for the second phase of its winter season in Southeast Asia, sailing is a 14-night open-jaw cruise operating between Singapore and Hong Kong.
Following the conclusion of its Southeast Asia programme, Westerdam is set to continue operating in the Asia-Pacific region with a series of spring cruises to Japan and other Far East destinations.
The ship will then reposition to North America for the summer season, where it is scheduled to operate cruises to Alaska.
Westerdam is one of four ships in Holland America Line’s Vista-class series and accommodates approximately 1,900 guests.
The recent drydock forms part of the vessel’s ongoing lifecycle maintenance and enhancement programme, aimed at ensuring continued operational reliability and guest experience standards as the ship enters its third decade of service.
