Fred Olsen to feature overnight stay in Cape Town on 2027 Borealis World Cruise

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has released the itinerary for its new 98-night World Cruise from Southampton in 2027 aboard Borealis, with Cape Town, South Africa featured as a key port of call.

Borealis will stay overnight in Cape Town on April 9th, 2027 during the voyage, one of five multi-day port calls, including Colón, Panama; Tokyo and Osaka, Japan; and Port Louis, Mauritius.

In addition to Cape Town, the World Cruise will include calls in Hawaii, as well as five Japanese ports, carefully timed to avoid the peak tourist season and to coincide with the beauty of the late plum blossom.

The voyage will offer a number of other once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, from whale watching in the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii to witnessing Hong Kong’s iconic skyline illuminated by the Symphony of Lights.

Other highlights include visits to Pearl Harbor, Singapore’s futuristic Gardens by the Bay, and of course the chance to seek out the Big Five on wildlife safari in South Africa. Port Elizabeth is another key call on the ship’s itinerary.

Borealis will also transit through the world-famous Panama Canal, a feat of engineering that links the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

“This is a truly special voyage of discovery and one that we have had great fun in curating, designed especially to showcase iconic landmarks, diverse cultures and natural wonders across some world-renowned cities and wonderful hidden gems,” said Martin Lister, Head of Product Innovation at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.

V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

“An undoubted highlight will be the extended call into Japan, at a time of year when there will be fewer crowds and the chance to witness the beauty of the late plum blossom season,” he added.

“With five ports of call, guests explore many ancient castles and temples, take in breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, ride the bullet train in Osaka and join us for a maiden call into Shimizu,” he said.

“Later, a four-day call to Hawaii will allow ample time to explore the archipelago’s volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches and lush rainforests, embrace the spirit of Aloha at a traditional Luau and sample delicious local cuisine.”

Guests who book by May 7th, 2025 will benefit from Fred. Olsen’s Freedom Fare Price Promise, which guarantees that if a guest books a Freedom Fare within the first four weeks of a cruise going on sale, they are guaranteed the best value – or will receive a cabin upgrade or on-board spending credit if the fare is later reduced.

All guests joining this World Cruise will also benefit from Fred. Olsen’s new inclusive pricing. This means that all guests who book a Freedom Fare will be able to enjoy full board dining; house beers, wines, spirits, and draught soft drinks with lunch and dinner; entertainment and enrichment activities; shuttle buses when the port is more than one mile from the ship; guided social strolls in selected ports; fitness classes; crew gratuities and port fees and taxes – all covered in the cost of their initial cruise fare.
