A&K Travel is planning a massive expansion of the Crystal Cruises fleet with up to four new ships to be built, including expedition vessels.

The new plans were announced by Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group, during Crystal Serenity’s preview voyage ahead of the cruise line’s restart of operations.

Crystal Cruises suspended all activities in 2022 with the collapse of its parent company Genting Hong Kong, but was later bought by A&K.

The travel giant announced that the two existing ships in the fleet would undergo a major bow-to-stern refit and refurbishment, but now it has been revealed the cruise line’s new parent company will also be investing heavily in expanding the fleet.

Levis said the brand is working with its advisors, lenders and export credit agents in order to sign a memorandum of agreement with two European shipbuilders for four new ships.

The deal will include two classic ships and two expedition vessels, the company said. Crystal Cruises had previously attempted to expand into the luxury expedition cruise sector. It took delivery of Crystal Endeavour just a few months prior to suspending operations.

Crystal Endeavour was later acquired by Silversea for $275 million and renamed Silver Endeavour. The luxury vessel is one of the most advanced expedition ships in the industry, complete with submersibles that carry passengers beneath the waves where they’re served champagne in leather seats.

Now with the renewed investment by its new parent company A&K, Crystal Cruises will be able to expand into expedition cruising once more.

“We have ambitious growth plans for Crystal and are proud of what we have accomplished with the relaunch of Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony in just under a year following the purchase of the brand,” said Levis.

“We are now thrilled to formally announce that we will be growing our fleet and continue to offer the most exceptional cruising experiences in the industry,” she added.

Crystal Serenity will set sail for its inaugural voyage on July 31st, departing from Marseille following her extensive refurbishment.

Crystal Serenity’s sister ship, Crystal Symphony will depart from Athens on September 1st, for her inaugural sailing following an equally extensive refit.
