World’s largest cruise ship Wonder of the Seas finally debuts in North America

After waiting several weeks for her to finish her maiden season in Europe, the US market will finally get to experience Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world (for now).

Wonder of the Seas made her North American debut in Port Canaveral, where she will homeport year-round, cruising to both the Western and Eastern Caribbean.

Although Wonder of the Seas was first introduced in the US market, she was immediately repositioned to Europe, so this marks the start of her first proper season in North America.

Wonder of the Seas arrived in Port Canaveral after a two-week trans-Atlantic cruise from Barcelona that included visits to four additional ports in Spain: Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena and Malaga.

Nassau in the Bahamas was also included on the itinerary, and will be a regular port of call on her upcoming Caribbean cruises.

On her first cruise from Port Canaveral, Wonder is offering a 7-night itinerary to the Eastern Caribbean.

In addition to three full days at sea, the voyage features visits to St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean International’s private island in the Bahamas. The island features the tallest waterslide in North America and helium balloons that float up to 450 feet in the air.

Guests can also grab a drink at the swim-up bar and soak up the scene in the largest freshwater pool in the Bahamas or get a taste of Bora Bora with a private Overwater Cabana.

Other destinations set to be visited by the 5,448-guest ship include Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatán, Labadee, San Juan, Falmouth and more.

Wonder is the latest vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class and debuted earlier this year as the world’s largest cruise ship. A sixth sister ship, Utopia of the Seas, is due to round-off the class in 2024.

These ships won’t be the largest in the world for long, though, because Royal Caribbean is already having an even larger class of ship built, to be led by Icon of the Seas.

At 250,000 gross tons, the Icon class will carry almost 10,000 passengers and combine the most popular elements of the Oasis class, while also introducing a range of at sea firsts for Royal Caribbean.
