All Disney cruises from the US and Europe have been cancelled until July

Disney Cruise Line has cancelled its cruises from US ports, as well as all cruises in Europe, until at least July, 2021.

All cruises aboard Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wonder have been further suspended until July, except for those cruises scheduled from the UK aboard Disney Magic.

Disney Magic will sail her UK cruise season for the summer as previously announced, but her entire European season has been cancelled through September 18th, 2021.

“The Disney Magic will set sail in the United Kingdom for a limited time this summer on short voyages limited to UK residents, pending the issuance of UK Government guidelines and authorizations,” the cruise line said.

All Disney cruises from the US have been cancelled following the CDC’s recently released guidance, Disney Cruise Line noted. While the guidance was largely absent of any major new developments, it also failed to include a timeline for the resumption of cruises.

Without any indication on when the CDC might allow cruises from the US to resume, cruise lines are essentially left hanging, unable to invest in the ramp-up required in training and hardware to bring ships into compliance with the CDC’s guidelines, as well as bringing them out of lay-up.

The cruise industry has largely been on pause for over a year now, with only limited voyages in Europe and Asia.

Bringing a ship back into service will require getting crew back onboard, updating their licenses and training, re-certifying ships with ship registries, undergoing dry dockings to ensure technical compliance and a host of other measures.

It’s for this reason that Norwegian Cruise Line has previously said it could take up to two months to bring a single ship back into service, a similar timeline has been stated by Carnival Corporation as well.

As to Disney’s Canada itineraries, those are on hold until February 28th, 2022, “in light of the Canadian government’s announcement that they will not allow ships with more than 100 passengers to dock in any Canadian port.”

“We continue to evaluate various options for the Disney Wonder’s scheduled season in Alaska,” said Disney Cruise Line. “Once a decision is made, we will reach out to Guests booked on these sailings.”

Additionally, Disney cruises from the US longer than seven nights have been cancelled due to the CDC’s Conditional Sailing Order, which limits the length of cruises from US ports.

“Guests booked on affected sailings, who have paid their reservation in full, will be offered the choice of a cruise credit to be used for a future sailing or a full refund,” it said.

Guests, who have not paid their reservations in full, will automatically receive a refund of what they have paid so far, and should avail the refund via their travel agent if they didn’t book directly from the cruise line.
