Seven Seas Splendor delivered to Regent Seven Seas Cruises at Fincantieri Ancona shipyard

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has taken delivery of its second Explorer-class luxury cruise ship, Seven Seas Splendor, which joins sister ship Seven Seas Explorer as one of the most expensive cruise ships ever built (on a per ton basis).

To put her half-a-billion dollar price tag in perspective, an Oasis-class cruise ship for Royal Caribbean costs around $1-billion, carries 6,000 passengers and comes in at a gargantuan 250,000-gross tons.

Seven Seas Explorer is a quarter the size in gross ton terms, carries just over a tenth the number of passengers (750) and instead of bowling alleys, dodgem cars and water slides, she boasts features like a $200,000 bed, the most expensive bed at sea, in the Regent Suite.

The Regent Suite has more to boast about than the bed though, in addition to the Hästens Vividus custom handmade mattress, it also features an in-suite spa retreat.

The private spa comes with a personal sauna, steam room and treatment area with unlimited spa treatments, unobstructed 270-degree views over Seven Seas Splendor’s bow from the 1,300 square-foot wraparound veranda, and a glass-enclosed solarium sitting area on top of the bridge.

She is the second of a planned three ships for the top-end of Regent’s fleet. A third sister ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard and will be delivered in 2023.

In attendance at the handover were Jason Montague, President & CEO, Regent Seven Seas and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager, Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division.

According to Montague, day Seven Seas Splendor opened for reservations was the busiest booking day in the company’s history.

The ship will have 551 crew members caring for 750 guests in 375 suites, ranging from 307- to 4,443-square feet.

Her public spaces include five restaurants and three bars and lounges, as well as a US $5 million curated art collection, more than 500 crystal chandeliers, and over an acre of Italian marble.

Her master, Captain Serena Melani, is the first female captain to take charge of a brand-new ocean cruise ship, joining a growing list of pioneering female cruise ship captains.

Seven Seas Splendor will debut February 6, 2020 with a transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to Miami. It will be christened in Miami on February 21 by godmother Christie Brinkley.
