Royal Caribbean Group expects its new Celebrity River Cruises brand to become a significant growth driver, with executives citing premium pricing and strong demand from guests of both Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.
Speaking during the company’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jason Liberty said the river cruise venture is central to the group’s strategy of expanding guest loyalty by offering more vacation options across its portfolio.
“New destination experiences like Celebrity River are fuelling our vision of transitioning from a vacation of a lifetime to a lifetime of vacations,” Liberty said in comments reported by Cruise Industry News.
The comments provide further insight into Royal Caribbean Group’s ambitions for the river cruise market, where Celebrity Cruises is preparing to launch a fleet of purpose-built vessels designed to bring its premium ocean cruise experience to Europe’s inland waterways.
Liberty said the company was leveraging its existing customer base while creating a product aimed at guests seeking a more elevated river cruise experience.
“We’re effectively miniaturising an Edge Class ship and putting it on River,” he said. “The look, feel and onboard experience are what Celebrity guests want.”
He added that combining Celebrity’s contemporary design with enhanced shoreside experiences was already generating strong demand and allowing the company to command premium pricing.
“We’re seeing pricing that is higher than what we see in the competitive set for river,” Liberty said.
Rather than replacing ocean cruises, the company believes the new product will encourage guests to take additional holidays across different brands and vacation styles.
“For us to be able to offer them another vacation experience that is typically not a substitute, it’s an additional vacation, we feel very encouraged by that level of demand,” Liberty said.
Michael Bayley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Caribbean International, said interest in the new brand extended beyond Celebrity Cruises’ traditional customer base.
“We also see a lot of interest from the Royal Caribbean guests for Celebrity River, which is really great news,” Bayley said. “It’s been very positive, the response to this new product.”
The comments suggest Royal Caribbean Group expects Celebrity River Cruises to benefit from cross-brand loyalty within its existing customer base, providing opportunities to retain guests within the wider portfolio while expanding into a fast-growing segment of the premium cruise market.
Celebrity River Cruises was announced as the group’s entry into European river cruising and is intended to extend the Celebrity brand’s focus on contemporary luxury beyond ocean travel.
The river vessels are expected to incorporate many of the design principles introduced aboard Celebrity’s award-winning Edge Class ocean ships, while offering more immersive destination experiences on Europe’s rivers.
The latest update indicates the company believes that strategy is already resonating with consumers, with early bookings supporting premium pricing ahead of the brand’s launch.
For Royal Caribbean Group, Celebrity River Cruises represents another step in broadening its holiday offering, allowing guests to move between ocean, river, and land-based experiences while remaining within the company’s portfolio.
