Royal Caribbean International has unveiled Hero of the Seas, the fourth vessel in its Icon Class, with the ship set to enter service from Miami in August 2027 as part of the company’s expanding focus on large-scale, family-oriented cruising.
The newbuild will introduce a range of features centred on multigenerational travel, including an expanded waterpark, new accommodation formats, and a broadened dining programme.
The ship will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with calls including destinations in The Bahamas, Mexico, Honduras, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean.
“With more water, more thrills, and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together,” he added.
Hero of the Seas will feature eight onboard neighbourhoods, a concept first introduced with earlier Icon Class ships, and will include nine pools, described as the highest number at sea.
Hero of the Seas key features and itineraries
- Launch: August 2027 from Miami
- Itineraries: Seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises
- Ports of call: Perfect Day at CocoCay (Bahamas), Roatan, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Philipsburg, Charlotte Amalie
Among the new additions is Coconut Cove, a Caribbean-themed pool area, alongside an expanded adults-only area known as The Hideaway, which will include two pools and a swim-up bar.
The vessel’s waterpark, Category 6, will incorporate additional attractions, including two new family raft slides and what is described as the first funnel raft slide at sea, as well as updated versions of existing mat-racing slides.
Other activity features include a combined skywalk and zip line experience positioned above the ocean, a surf simulator, and a range of sports and recreation facilities.
Dining will form a central part of the onboard offering, with 28 venues planned. New concepts include a supper club themed around New Orleans cuisine, featuring multi-course dining alongside live music, and a train-inspired immersive dining experience.
A dedicated family cooking venue will also offer classes aimed at different age groups, alongside returning concepts such as a food hall-style venue and a mix of casual and specialty restaurants.
Accommodation options are being expanded to reflect the ship’s family focus. These include a three-level Ultimate Family Treehouse suite, as well as multi-level townhouses and family-oriented suites located in dedicated areas of the ship.
More traditional suite categories and standard cabins will also be available, with a range of configurations aimed at larger groups travelling together.
The ship will also retain a number of design features associated with the Icon Class, including a central open-air park area with live plants, a large-scale kinetic art installation, and multiple entertainment venues ranging from theatre productions to ice shows and aquatic performances.
The introduction of Hero of the Seas continues a broader trend within the cruise sector towards larger ships designed to function as self-contained resort environments, combining accommodation, entertainment, and dining into a single integrated offering.

For Royal Caribbean, the Icon Class represents a significant part of its future capacity growth, with each vessel building on a standardised platform while introducing new features aimed at repeat and first-time cruise passengers alike.
Bookings for the ship are expected to open in early April 2026, with initial access for loyalty programme members ahead of general sales.
