Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Pearl is undergoing an extensive refit at the Chantiers Naval de Marseille shipyard in France, becoming the second of the line’s Jewel-class vessels to receive upgrades this autumn.
The 2006-built ship arrived in dry dock on November 4th, following sister ship Norwegian Jewel, which completed a similar dry dock programme in October. The work marks the continuation of Norwegian’s broader fleet revitalisation effort, aimed at modernising its mid-sized ships to align with newer vessels in the fleet.
According to Norwegian Cruise Line, Norwegian Pearl will debut a new adults-only outdoor venue, the Vibe Beach Club, situated on Deck 14 in an area distinct from the main pool deck. The space will feature a full-service bar, 54 premium loungers, seven private cabanas and an additional hot tub, offering a more secluded environment for guests seeking a quieter experience at sea.
The cruise line said the new venue will offer ocean views, chilled towels, fruit skewers, and personalised service. It mirrors the work completed aboard Norwegian Jewel, which received the same addition during its 20-day maintenance period earlier this season.
Following completion of the upgrades later in November, Norwegian Pearl will reposition to Miami via a transatlantic crossing before resuming regular sailings in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Panama Canal.
The itineraries will include stops at Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, which itself is undergoing redevelopment. The island is expected to unveil a new pier and welcome centre later this year, followed by the opening of a six-acre waterpark in 2026.
After its Caribbean deployment, Norwegian Pearl will return to Europe in 2026 for a summer programme in the Mediterranean. The season will include itineraries departing from ports such as Piraeus, Barcelona, and Ravenna, offering access to destinations across Greece, Italy, and Spain.
The Jewel-class upgrades form part of a multi-year modernisation programme that has seen several of Norwegian Cruise Line’s ships refurbished in recent years, including Norwegian Epic, Breakaway, Encore, Bliss, Getaway, Joy, Spirit, and Sky.
Enhancements have ranged from refreshed staterooms and upgraded entertainment venues to the addition of new dining concepts and public spaces.
Norwegian said the ongoing refurbishment initiative reflects its goal of offering a consistent onboard experience across its global fleet while extending the operational life of its existing ships.
