New details reported on Disney Fantasy refit, with new bulbous bow and tower suite

Further details have been reported about the ongoing refit of Disney Fantasy, currently in drydock at the Damen Shiprepair yard in Brest, France.

The 2012-built vessel entered the yard on October 1st 2025 following its summer season in Europe, with the technical and interior upgrade scheduled for completion on October 28th.

According to reports in the French newspaper Le Télégramme, one of the main projects under way is the installation of a new 180-ton bulbous bow.

Designed with a more tapered shape, the new section is intended to improve hydrodynamic performance and fuel efficiency. The replacement was carried out earlier this month under the supervision of German technicians, with precision handling required to position the 180-ton block.

The report also indicated that nearly 4,000 people are involved in the drydock operation, including Damen teams, subcontractors, and crew. More than 700 trucks and 100 shipping containers have been used to deliver materials and equipment for the extensive refit.

The ship’s hull is also being treated with a new silicone-based coating aimed at reducing friction and improving efficiency during service. The upgrade accompanies class inspections and routine technical maintenance, including overhauls to onboard systems.

On the hotel side, around 40 kilometres of carpet are being replaced throughout the ship, alongside various interior updates. Disney Fantasy will also debut a new two-storey Tower Suite, a 2,030-square-foot accommodation inspired by the 1940 Disney classic Fantasia.

The suite replaces the former Outlook Bar and Radio Studio, mirroring a similar addition to sister ship Disney Dream during its 2024 refit.

These details come after Disney Cruise Line confirmed several features of the refit, including the introduction of Ramone’s Cantina, a Cars-themed quick-service venue serving Mexican-inspired dishes; the relocation of Edge, the youth club for ages 11 to 14, to Deck 5; and the installation of a new Sorcerer Mickey-themed funnel suite in its previous location.

Once work in Brest is completed, Disney Fantasy will depart on a transatlantic voyage to North America and resume service in mid-November from its homeport of Port Canaveral, sailing a programme of four- and five-night cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, including calls at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

The additional details highlight the scale and technical scope of the refit, which combines fuel-efficiency improvements with interior modernisation ahead of the ship’s return to regular service.
