Viking’s Nile cruises connect ancient wonders with the legacy of Highclere Castle and Downton Abbey
The Saudi Arabian cruise line AROYA Cruises and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt are in talks on forming a cooperation to promote cruise tourism in the country, according to a statement.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy met with the Chairman of AROYA Cruises Joerg Rudolph and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways to promote Egypt as a cruise destination and explore options to expand AROYA’s Egyptian port calls for the upcoming season.
AROYA Cruises, the first homegrown domestic cruise line in the Arab world, is a Saudi Arabian brand launched by Cruise Saudi. The cruise line intends to begin operations aboard its first ship, Aroya, in the Red Sea in December.
AROYA Cruises aims to bring regional expertise to the industry, reflecting a broader trend of domestic tourism investment in the Middle East.
It will focus its itineraries in the Red Sea, a region that offers a combination of warm climates, scenic coastal views, and strategic access to popular ports like Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, and beyond.
This development presents Egypt with a unique opportunity to tap into the growing market of cruise tourism, capitalising on the appeal of its coastal cities as well as ancient monuments along the Nile.
The potential partnership between AROYA Cruises and Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reflects a shared vision to elevate the Red Sea as a premier cruise destination and position the region as a hub for international tourists.
With AROYA Cruises’ innovative approach, the initiative aims to attract travelers from across the globe to experience both Saudi and Egyptian cultural heritage through an accessible and convenient cruise journey.
Onboard AROYA Cruises, guests experience Middle Eastern-inspired hospitality through dining, entertainment, and cultural programmes reflecting regional influences.
Cuisine features a mix of traditional Arabic dishes and international options, offering variety across several dining venues.
Entertainment includes live performances and activities designed to showcase local art, music, and storytelling traditions.
The ship also offers modern amenities such as a wellness center, pools, and dedicated children’s areas, ensuring a range of options for relaxation and family engagement.
AROYA’s onboard offerings aim to provide a travel experience rooted in regional heritage, with excursions to iconic destinations along the Red Sea coast.
The cruise line has designed the onboard experience to cater to the Middle Eastern market, with no alcohol served onboard, gender-segregated public spaces, and Halal dining throughout.
