Residential cruise ship The World set for extended South African visit in 2024

The World, a one-of-its-kind residential cruise ship, will be sailing to South Africa in 2024 for an extended visit to three ports in the country.

The World will call in Cape Town, Mossel Bay, and Durban during a two-week South African leg of its 2024 journey to six continents.

The World will arrive in Cape Town at the end of February, marking the end of an expedition to Antarctica this January and one to South America during February.

While in Cape Town, residents will have the chance to explore the stunning Cape Winelands with exclusive visits to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, enjoy the city’s thriving art scene at the world-class Bijou and Christopher Moller Galleries, and soak in outstanding natural landscapes with a hike up Lions Head.

Residents will also see Cape Town through esteemed historian Dr. Dean Allen’s eyes, as he delivers a private overview of the city’s history atop Table Mountain before guiding the group through significant landmarks and neighbourhoods.

The World will then depart for Mossel Bay, where Residents can snorkel among the area’s renowned marine life, before sailing on to Durban, where residents will have the chance to spot Africa’s “big five” in the wild bushveld at Phinda Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal.

After almost two weeks in South Africa, The World will then go on to traverse the turquoise seas of Africa’s east coast, stopping along the way in Mozambique, Zanzibar and Kenya before a week spent among the white sands of the Seychelles.

The World is the only ship of its kind in operation, offering a unique luxury lifestyle of global exploration for residents that live onboard, either full time or for only part of the year.

There are 165 residences (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, and 40 studios), all owned by the ship’s residents, who provide guidance on the ship’s management and itinerary through an elected board of directors.

The World is the only residential cruise ship currently in operation

The onboard lifestyle is much like that of any other cruise ship, with the vessel offering a large lobby, deli and grocery store, a boutique, fitness center, billiard room, golf simulator and putting greens, tennis court, jogging track, spa, swimming pool, and several cocktail lounges.
