Cape Town cruises for 2022/23 season

While 2021/22 was a disappointment for the South African cruise sector thanks to the Omicron variant, 2022/23 is looking to be much better, with 48 roundtrip itineraries scheduled.

Cape Town expects a strong rebound in cruise tourism for the 2022/23 season

The emergence of the Omicron variant in late 2021 forced many cruise lines to cancel their planned homeporting seasons in Cape Town, and when MSC Cruises pushed ahead with its plans to cruise in South Africa, a COVID-19 outbreak aboard MSC Orchestra led to the cancellation of cruises for a whole month of the season.

As a result, she arrived in Cape Town late for the west coast phase of her South African cruise season, and only sailed a handful of departures from the Mother City in early 2022.

The coming cruise season, starting in November, 2022 and ending in April, 2023, looks to be a whole lot different though, if the scheduled itineraries go ahead.

A total of 12 cruise ships will cruise from Cape Town during the season, with 7 of them cruising roundtrip from the city 48 times, while the others will sail grand voyages or separate itineraries within longer world cruise programs.

In addition, the 7 cruise ships sailing roundtrip from Cape Town during the season will also be offering longer repositioning cruises in March and April when they wrap up their cruise seasons.
