Revamped Crystal returning to South Africa for 2025 with cruise to Mombasa

Crystal Cruises will be returning to South Africa, offering voyages to and from South Africa and other destinations on the continent in 2025, following its acquisition by A&K Travel and multi-million dollar revamp of its fleet.

Crystal Serenity will be sailing the African coast in 2025, with cruises on offer from Rio de Janeiro to Cape Town, from Cape Town to Mombasa in Kenya, and from Mombasa to Mumbai in India.

Crystal Serenity is one of two ships in the Crystal Cruises fleet, renowned for her luxury and high standards of service. The ship has undergone a major bow to stern refit and refurbishment alongside her fleet mate Crystal Symphony.

Originally built in 2002, Crystal Serenity has been kept to the highest standards over the years, and in 2023 received a $150-million renovation from her new owners.

All public spaces were refreshed, and many of the ship’s cabins were updated and expanded, reducing capacity to 740 from 1,040, giving passengers even more space per person.

The refit also saw two of Crystal Serenity’s restaurants renovated: Umi Uma from chef Nobu Matsuhisa and a new Italian venue, Osteria d’Ovidio, which replaced the cruise line’s signature specialty venue Prego. The ship offers 10 unique dining experiences, plus 24-hour room service.

On March 8th, 2025, Crystal Symphony will sail a 15-night voyage from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Cape Town, South Africa. On March 20th, 2025, she’ll then cruise from Cape Town for Mombasa in Kenya.

The 15-night itinerary features port calls in Mossel Bay, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban and Richard’s Bay in South Africa, as well as Maputo in Mozambique and the former capital of the Portuguese colony, Island of Mozambique.

On April 4th, Crystal Serenity will then depart Mombasa in Kenya for Mumbai in India. The 14-night cruise crosses the Indian Ocean visiting some of its most exotic destinations, including Mahe, Praslin and Le Digue in Seychelled, as well as Male in the Maldives.

Crystal Cruises will also be offering Middle East voyages in 2025, with Crystal Symphony set to sail a range of cruises from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Doha in Qatar and of course Dubai in the UAE.

These South African and Middle East cruises aboard Crystal were released as part of a wider 70 itineraries for 2025, which see Crystal Symphony and Crystal Symphony visiting hundreds of ports from North Cape to Ushuaia and beyond.
