Princess Cruises to name second Sphere class ship Star Princess

Princess Cruises has announced that its new Sphere class cruise ship, the second in the class and a sister ship to Sun Princess, will be called Star Princess.

Star Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and will sail an inaugural season of Mediterranean voyages when she debuts in August 2025.

The inaugural cruises aboard Star Princess are now on sale, while the the larger European program for 2025 will release on June 1st, 2023.

At 175,500 tons and carrying 4,300 guests, Star Princess joins Sun Princess as the largest ships ever built for Princess Cruises.

Ground-breaking spaces aboard Star Princess will mirror those that debuted aboard Sun Princess.

They include The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini; the next-level Piazza featuring a glass sphere; the Princess Arena, a configurable, technologically-advanced main theater and a dining room positioned aft of the ship to deliver stunning views.

Star Princess will also feature expanded accommodation options, including the new Reserve and Signature Collections, new food and beverage concepts, an expanded casino, a two-story Lotus Spa and entertainment headlined by Cirque Éloize.

“We’ve carefully designed these ships to feel familiar to our guests yet significantly advanced with lots of exceptional new and expanded experiences to embrace and explore,” he added.

Star Princess will be the second in the Princess fleet to be powered by LNG fuel technology, and is scheduled to debut on August 4th, 2025, sailing a nine-day Inaugural Italy & Greece roundtrip cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia).

The cruise features stops in Corfu, Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini and Naples (for Capri and Pompeii). That voyage will be followed by a variety of nine- and 10-day cruises sailing from Rome, Athens or Trieste (Venice).
