Norwegian Viva to debut ‘Beetlejuice the Musical’ in three-deck theatre

Beetlejuice the Musical is coming to Norwegian Cruise Line, with Norwegian Viva to debut the new Broadway production when she launches in mid-2023.

The new show will be the headline production aboard the ship, marking Norwegian Cruise Line’s ongoing move to bring Broadway shows to sea.

The cruise line has already successfully rolled out the Broadway musical Six aboard Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway, while Jersey Boys was the headline production when Norwegian Bliss was introduced in 2018.

“NCL has a history of pioneering the cruise experience and delivering the high-caliber entertainment programming our guests expect,” said David J. Herrera, incoming President of Norwegian Cruise Line.

“We are dedicated to pushing the envelope, delivering on those expectations, and putting our guests first as we elevate our onboard offerings for the ultimate vacation at sea,” he added. “This summer, I cannot wait to bring the fun and nostalgia of ‘Beetlejuice’ to our all-new Norwegian Viva.”

The Tony Award-nominated musical (the 90-minute Broadway adaptation of Tim Burton’s 1988 film) tells the story of the Deetz family remodeling a haunted house. The production will take place at the Norwegian’s three-story Viva Theatre & Club, complete with special effects, according to a release.

Michelle D’Amico, a cast member of the Broadway production of the musical will join Norwegian Viva for the inaugural season in her role as “Lydia”.

“We pride ourselves on not only delivering amazing performances for theater fans but introducing guests to Broadway and West End-caliber shows, which are made even more special by the incredible setting of the Viva Theatre & Club that seamlessly transforms from a best-in-class theater experience to an expansive nightclub,” added Richard Ambrose, Senior Vice President of Entertainment and Cruise Programming.

Norwegian Viva

Additionally, after debuting the game show “The Price is Right LIVE” on the Norwegian Prima last year, the Norwegian Viva will also offer a live game show experience with the “Press Your Luck LIVE”. The show invites the audience to be part of it and win grand prizes.

Norwegian’s newest ship will also feature returning guest favourites such as “Improv @ Sea” Comedy Club; “Syd Norman’s Pour House” and more.

Norwegian Viva is the second of a planned six Project Leonardo-class ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, which are more commonly known as the Prima-class. These vessels are an entirely new class for Norwegian Cruise Line, and feature a range of enhancements compared to anything else in the fleet.

Dry slide and Ocean Boulevard

The ships build on some of the most popular features of the Breakaway-Plus class ships, including an expanded Waterfront area (renamed the Ocean Boulevard), and a go-kart track up on the top deck.

The ship will offer nine new dining and beverage options, as well as the Indulge Food Hall, the upscale food market exhibiting 11 unique eateries, along with Hudson’s, the complimentary restaurant overlooking 270-degrees of ocean views. Norwegian Viva also features the fastest slides at sea, The Drop and Rush.
