P&O reveals more details on first escape room at sea aboard new ship Arvia

P&O Cruises has released more information about its first-ever escape room at sea aboard its upcoming ship Arvia in December 2022.

The Mission Control escape room will initially be available only aboard Arvia, and will feature missions and adventures themed around the environment.

These two-hour missions will come in two forms: a family-friendly plot for all ages and an adventure storyline for adults.

Both storylines will take place aboard the fictional submarine Arvia II. Guests board in groups of up to ten to create a team of marine explorers and underwater investigators, guided by virtual character Dr. Melissa Ryan.

“We wanted to create something brand new and we believe this is the first of its kind in the world,” said Paul Ludlow, President, P&O Cruises. “Our technology partner specialises in things that have never been done before so boarding Arvia II is guaranteed to wow our guests and be like being in the biggest blockbuster movie.”

“The unique environmental experience will also leave guests with a greater awareness of the need to protect our fragile marine ecosystems,” he added.

P&O Cruises announced back in December that Arvia would feature an escape room, but not many details were forthcoming, except that it would feature a “film-like plot of twists and turns including motion simulation”.

Arvia is expected to enter service in December, 2022, she is a sister ship to Iona, but will feature a number of new experiences, such as the escape room, and the previously announced Altitudes, which will comprise a high ropes experience, mini-golf and a water splash zone.

Not much has been released about Arvia in terms of her interior design, amenities, experiences and facilities, but Iona carries 5,200 guests and 1,800 crew, and boasts a three-deck-high atrium with a grand staircase.

She also offers 17 restaurants, including 8 specialty restaurants, and 12 bars, an entertainment venue called The Skydome, featuring a retractable stage for shows, as well as a half-mile-long lanai deck with a covered promenade, with outdoor restaurants.

She is the eighth of a planned total of nine Excellence-class ships in the Carnival Corporation fleet and will be the second launched for P&O Cruises.
