AIDAcosma christening details revealed ahead of Dubai season

AIDA Cruises has announced the christening details for its new cruise ship AIDAcosma, with athlete Kristina Vogel to play the part of godmother in Hamburg on April 9th, 2022.

AIDAcosma will be christened by Kristina Vogel ahead of the ship’s inaugral cruise season in the Mediterranean, and winter itineraries in the Arabian Gulf out of Dubai.

AIDAcosma is the German cruise line’s second LNG-powered Excellence-class cruise ship and the fifth overall in the fleet of parent company Carnival Corporation.

According to a press release, guests of the christening event will be able to view a light show accompanied by 300 luminous drones and modern beam lights.

The 20-minute light show and the naming ceremony will be broadcast from 9.30 p.m. on AIDA Cruises’ website and YouTube channel.

AIDA has also booked DJ Alle Farben to perform onboard. The Berlin house music artist boasts two billion streams, 32 diamond, platinum and gold awards from Europe to Asia, as well as multiple chart placements and number one hits.

He’ll perform on the stage in the ship’s massive Beach Club, which is a pool area by day and nightclub by night.

Guests on the 14-day christening voyage from April 9th to the 23rd, 2022, from Hamburg to Palma de Mallorca, will also be able to take part in special festivities, such as a “lap of honour” by the ship in front of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie concert hall after her 11pm departure.

AIDA gourmet godfathers Sven Marquardt, Andrea Schirmeier-Huber and Franz Schned will create a special christening menu for guests onboard the christening voyage with further delicacies and appearances on stage.

They will be joined by TV chef Felicitas Then, gourmet patron of the Beach House, the new specialty restaurant onboard the AIDAcosma.

Beach Club aboard AIDAcosma sister ship AIDAnova

Onboard entertainment will be provided by pianist Joja Wendt, AIDA guest artist Wayne Morris and comedian Niko Formanek.

Guests will also be able to enjoy new shows debuting aboard AIDAcosma, which differs from her sister ship AIDAnova in several key ways.

The new Ocean Deck on the AIDAcosma extends over four decks and offers a panoramic view of the sea and an infinity pool at the stern of the ship. Also new are the Fun Park with a large indoor playground and the Boulder Wall.

The culinary variety has been enhanced with a new specialty restaurant Beach House, specialty restaurant Mamma Mia offering homemade pasta and fresh Italian cuisine, and the Brauhaus with an outdoor grill and sea views.

These are just a few of the 17 restaurants and 23 bars and cafés onboard.

AIDAcosma will homeport in Palma and Barcelona for the summer, sailing roundtrip in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Dubai for the winter, 2022/23 cruise season. She’ll homeport in Dubai until March, 2023, sailing from the new Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal to Abu Dhabi, Muscat in Oman and Doha in Qatar.
