Celebrity Cruises marks Celebrity Beyond float out at Chantiers de l’Atlantique

Celebrity Cruises has announced the float out of its newest cruise ship, the third Edge-class ship in its fleet, Celebrity Beyond.

Just days after announcing a return to cruising in the Caribbean, as well as the UK, Celebrity Cruises has announced the Celebrity Beyond float out milestone.

The float out marks the penultimate stage in the ship’s physical construction and will be followed by final fit out and finishing.

Celebrity Beyond will then be sent for sea trials before being handed over to Celebrity Cruises next year.

Celebrty Beyond is being constructed at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire France.

The float out was announced by Celebrity Cruises via Twitter.

Celebrity Beyond leaves construction dry dock.

“This momentous occasion marks a key milestone in her construction. We can’t wait for her to join the fleet in Spring, 2022,” the cruise line said.

The construction of Celebrity Beyond was largely unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought many newbuild and refit projects to a halt in 2020.

Her keel was only laid in November, ten months after the first steel cutting began.

Celebrity Beyond will be a sister ship to Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, featuring the same class defining features that have made them such iconic vessels in the modern cruise fleet.

These include the Magic Carpet floating restaurant, a dining platform that rises and falls over the side of the vessel, and the Eden dining and entertainment complex at the stern where innovative cuisine and entertainment is served daily.

Celebrity Beyond is also expected to debut a number of modifications to the class, in the same way that the second Edge-class ship, Celebrity Apex, did.

The Eden entertainment complex aboard Celebrity Edge

Aboard Apex, the Eden dining experience was significantly modified based on passenger feedback regarding the style of entertainment.

A guest favourite that is sure to be included aboard Celebrity Beyond, however, is the unique stateroom design, where the balcony becomes part of the interior of the cabin at the click of a button.

Infinite Verandas make the balcony part of the cabin.

The Infinite Verandas give each cabin 30 square feet of additional space when the windows are closed.

Celebrity Cruises haven’t yet announced where Celebrity Beyond will be deployed. Celebrity Edge debuted in the Caribbean, sailing out of Port Everglades, while Celebrity Apex was meant to debut in the UK, before being repositioned to Athens.
