New Royal-class ship Enchanted Princess delivered to Princess Cruises by Fincantieri

Princess Cruises has taken delivery of its new cruise ship Enchanted Princess, in a ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, marking the 100th ship built by the yard, and the first ship it has delivered since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Due to ongoing travel restrictions and social distancing efforts amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Enchanted Princess was accepted for delivery by Princess Cruises in a virtual ceremony attended by Group President of Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia Jan Swartz.

Also in virtual attendance was the Chairman of Carnival Corporation Micky Arison, President and CEO of Carnival Corporation Arnold Donald, Group CEO of Holland America Group Stein Kruse, who watched as Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono presented the new ship.

With capacity for 3,600 passengers, the 144,650-gross ton ship is slightly larger than her four sister ships, and packed with a whole host of new amenities and features, from the largest balconies in the fleet, to new dining and entertainment options.

In taking delivery of Enchanted Princess, Jan Swartz said she hoped to have her in service within the coming months, amid the ongoing global shutdown of the cruise industry (apart from limited cruises in Europe).

“While the first few months onboard of the Enchanted Princess will be quite different from the usual activity of getting the new ship underway, the heart and soul of the ship is always her team,” said Swartz via a video call during the ceremony.

The ship is filled with amenities and experiences that “Princess is known for throughout the industry,” Swartzadded. “Like our Sanctuary, the adults-only relaxation area, and our signature soaring Piazza, which is always a hub of activity. It also features our proprietary smart ship technology, MedallionClass, which takes personal experience to an entirely new level.”

She also drew to attention to the fact that Enchanted Princess is the first Princess Cruises newbuild with the Advanced Air Quality System installed. This was one of several dozen innovations that were made by Fincantieri since the start of the pandemic.

After all speeches from the ceremony’s top guests, a flag changing ceremony signaled that the delivery had officially taken place.
