Silversea completes seatrials in Mediterranean for new luxury liner Silver Moon

Silver Moon, the new luxury cruise ship for Silversea, has completed sea trials in the Adriatic Sea, sailing between Fincantieri’s shipyards in Ancona and Trieste, Italy.

She was put into dry dock for a week in Trieste so that stability tests could be performed and public spaces inspected.

Engineers also applied the finishing touches to the ship’s exterior, including the cleaning and painting of the hull, and the polishing of the ship’s brass propellers.

She then sailed back to Ancona as the final stage in the sea trials, during which secondary tests and speed trials were carried out. On both voyages, she sailed with a reduced crew of approximately 320 due to precautionary health protocols.

Also on board were Silversea’s senior officers, external engineers, and representatives from both Fincantieri and the Royal Caribbean Group, along with Captain Alessandro Zanello, who will command the new ship.

Silver Moon will be a sister ship to Silver Muse

With over 20 years of experience at Silversea Cruises alone, Captain Zanello was at the helm for the launch of Silver Moon’s sister ship, Silver Muse, back in 2017, and was also present for the sea trials of Silver Spirit in 2009.

“As my third with Silversea, I must say that Silver Moon’s sea trials felt a little surreal after everything that happened in the months prior,” said Zanello. “The sea trials themselves felt special, indeed, and were held in unique circumstances.”

“I must admit, sea trials can often be stressful, with too many people on the bridge; it was quite pleasant to have a more tranquil environment,” he added.

Silver Moon, when she is delivered in October, 2020, will be the second Silversea ship to be delivered during the pandemic, after her fleet mate Silver Origin, a luxury expedition cruise ship, was delivered in June.

According to Silversea, Silver Moon “will push the boundaries of travel” with a new culinary program, S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) which will adapt according to the visited destination to unlock immersive culinary experiences for guests.

Although she will have a similar aesthetic to Silversea’s Silver Muse, which has become extremely popular with the cruise line’s guests, many of Silver Moon’s public spaces will be enhanced, according to Silversea.

The Dolce Vita lounge, the Connoisseur’s Corner, the Pool Deck, and the Spa and Fitness Centre have each undergone comprehensive redesigns for the benefit of guests’ comfort and enjoyment.

Silver Moon’s Kaiseki restaurant has also been reimagined, as well as the ship’s La Dame restaurant, which will incorporate bespoke Lalique crystal panels.

Elsewhere, La Terrazza, Silver Note, Atlantide, the Arts Café, The Grill, Spaccanapoli, the Panorama Lounge, the Observation Library, the Venetian Lounge, and the Casino will be based on the designs that debuted aboard Silver Muse.

The ship will also introduce a new entertainment concept for Silversea, called To the Moon and Beyond, the production will be a retro tribute to space exploration and classic sci-fi movies.
