Viking Cruises announces world’s longest-ever World Cruise itinerary

Could you spend a full eight months on a cruise? Nine-hundred and thirty passengers aboard Viking Sun will break the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous passenger voyage when the ship departs on the 245-day Ultimate World Cruise.

The cruise departed today from Greenwich and will arrive home in London in May, 2020, after visiting 51 countries and 111 ports, staying overnight in 23 of them. During the course of the voyage she will cover 55,700 nautical miles. (If you click the map below it will open in a larger window)

“For more than 20 years we have been committed to connecting travellers to culturally immersive experiences that allow them to explore the world in comfort,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking.

“Our Ultimate World Cruise is the most extensive itinerary available in the industry, nearly double the length of our previous world cruise itineraries. I am pleased to offer such a unique experience for our guests,” he added.

The Ultimate World Cruise will begin with a semi-circumnavigation of the UK, before heading out across the Atlantic via Scandinavia and Iceland to the Caribbean and destinations throughout South America before calling on the remote tropical islands of the South Pacific.

Viking Sun will then continue its journey along the coast of Australia and through Southeast Asia and the Far East before returning to the Mediterranean and Europe via Muscat in Oman.

What makes this voyage the longest World Cruise ever is that it combines several weeks cruising around the Pacific Rim with a circumnavigation of South America, most World Cruises do one or the other, and when they do both, other destinations like the Caribbean or Northern Europe are dropped.

A Guinness World Record Adjudicator will confirm the successful attempt of the longest-ever passenger cruise with a certificate presentation when Viking Sun arrives back in London in May next year.

The Ultimate World Cruise started at £66,990 per person, but for those without the time for the full 245 days, there are also shorter segments.

Guests could choose between the 127-day Viking World Treasures departing from London to Los Angeles on August 31st, 2019, with remaining cabins from £41,390 per person, or the 119-day Viking World Wonders itinerary departing from Los Angeles to London on January 4th, 2020 with a lead-in price of £32,990.
