Viking to cruise from Durban to London in 2019 for first time with Viking Sun

Viking Ocean Cruises has added South Africa to its 2019 destination line-up with its new cruise ship Viking Sun scheduled to cruise from Durban to London in April.

Viking Ocean Cruises announced back in September last year that they would be featuring South Africa heavily on Viking Sun’s World Cruise from Miami to London.

However, now it has been revealed that Durban will also be offered as a turnaround port for the last leg of the 128-day voyage, which includes 44 port calls in 21 countries on five continents.

On March 16th, 2019, Viking Sun will sail a 29-night cruise from Sydney to Durban. The ship will spend two full days in port in Durban and depart on April 13th for London on the last leg of the world cruise.

The 29-night cruise will spend the first five days on the South African coast, visiting East London, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town before venturing into the South Atlantic to explore Lüderitz and Walvis Bay, as well as several other ports along the West African coast.

As with all Viking itineraries, guests receive a complimentary shore excursion in each of the ports and free unlimited Wi-Fi.

Guests booked for the full World Cruise also receive Business Class airfare and all gratuities and service fees, along with an extensive list of added-value included features in their cruise fare.

Viking Sun was delivered to Viking Ocean Cruises in 2017, the 47,800 gross ton ship carries just 930 guests and is one of the most tasteful built for the premium cruise sector in recent memory.

There are five restaurants and four cafes and bars, as well as three pools and a fitness centre and spa. The spa offers Nordic-style services that reflect a passion for wellness.

The four lounges include a theatre and cinema and all staterooms have private balconies.

Decor is soothing in neutrals with lots of Nordic touches in the decor, ranging from the art collection to many cozy nooks meant to inspire relaxation.

Viking Sun is the only cruise ship using Durban as a departure point in 2019, apart from MSC Cruises, which are homeporting in the city with MSC Musica during the South African summer cruise season.
