MSC releases video of new Caribbean island Ocean Cay

MSC Cruises first private island in the Caribbean (and indeed its first in the world) is so close to completion that the cruise line has released a video providing us with a more in-depth look at the atmosphere and facilities to expect.

MSC says this will be the ultimate tropical island for relaxation, and indeed relaxation and a connection to nature has been built into every aspect of the island (don’t expect the thrills and bells and whistles of Coco Cay).

Located 65 miles from Miami, Florida, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is a former industrial sand extraction site that has been restored to a pristine marine reserve in the Bimini chain of islands in the western Bahamas.

The 120-square-acre island is surrounded by a 64-square-mile marine reserve and four smaller cays and is now home to hundreds of transplanted native plants, trees and shrubs.

The video released by MSC Cruises shows us some of the much-hyped locations and facilities on the island, such as:

Its unique beaches, including the Great Lagoon Beach: Located in an inlet at the center of the island, this is the largest single beach area and offers a haven with shallow crystal-clear water perfect for swimming and water sports.

Ice Cream Parlour: An ice cream shop and café that serves a wide variety of ice cream flavours and coffee drinks, the perfect cooldown just a short stroll from the nearby beach.

The soon-to-be iconic Lighthouse: A striking 98 ft. tall landmark that is home to a Hemingway-style bar and a terrace where guests can take in the sea view, have a cocktail, and enjoy live music. After sunset, guests can gather to watch a light show.

Seakers Food Court: A buffet restaurant that offers freshly prepared meals from a variety of international culinary traditions.

Ocean Cay will receive its first guests on November 9^th this year when MSC Meraviglia calls at the island on her 13-night Caribbean cruise from New York to Miami.

MSC Seaside and MSC Meraviglia will be the most prolific visitors for the first season, with plenty of calls from MSC Davina and MSC Armonia as well.

All four ships are homeporting in Miami for the coming cruise season and will call at Ocean Cay as part of their Caribbean itineraries.
