Allure of the Seas second Oasis-class cruise ship to undergo huge refurbishment

Royal Caribbean International has announced that Allure of the Seas will undergo a major $165-million refurbishment, similar to the one planned for sister ship Oasis of the Seas, the class leader.

Among the highlights are the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea; The Perfect Storm trio of waterslides, completely redesigned Adventure Ocean kids and teens spaces, the first Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, and Quantum Class original Music Hall.

After her refit and refurbishment, Allure of the Seas will sail a season of 7-night Western Mediterranean cruises from homeport Barcelona, Spain from May 10th, 2020, calling in Palma de Mallorca, Provence (Marseille), Florence/Pisa (La Spezia), Rome (Civitavecchia) and Naples.

In November 2020, Allure will make her way to Miami for the winter season. Sailing from Royal Caribbean’s state-of-the-art Terminal A, she will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises, many of which will include visits to the cruise line’s new private island destination in The Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

The ship’s family facilities will be upgraded with the Ultimate Abyss waterslide falling through 10 decks from the pool deck down to the promenade. The Perfect Storm trio of waterslides will also be added, along with Splashaway Bay kids waterpark.

This will include an overhaul of the entire pool deck, with The Lime & Coconut signature bar across two locations, a wider variety of seating and shade with cabana-like “casitas,” daybeds, hammocks and swing seats; new whirlpools on the top deck, and a reinvigorated, adults-only Solarium

Expanding on the ways that families can spend time together and on their own are the additions of completely reimagined, dedicated spaces for babies, kids and teens, and popular Royal Caribbean activities.

The Adventure Ocean kids areas will be upgraded with interactive, personalized and unexpected activities and features in areas redesigned from top to bottom, while the teens’ club will also be transformed into an exclusive lounge with gaming consoles, music, movies, places to hang out and a new outdoor deck.

A new laser tag arena will also be added to the ship, offering a range of adventures from Clash for the Crystal City and Royal Escape Room to Apollo 18: Lunar Landing.

Then there’s all the enhancements that will be made to the ship’s dining options. The ship will offer more restaurants, casual spots and bars such as Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Portside BBQ, Playmaker’s Sports Bar & Arcade, El Loco Fresh, Sugar Beach and the Quantum favourite, Bionic Bar.

When it comes to her common areas and entertainment spaces, Allure of the Seas will introduce Music Hall, which also debuted aboard the Quantum-class ships, as well as Spotlight Karaoke lounge, a dedicated karaoke bar with both main stage and private room experiences.

Allure of the Seas will be the second of the Oasis-class cruise ships (after Oasis herself) to undergo a bow-to-stern refurbishment, in what will be the largest projects of their kind the cruise industry has ever seen. The refit projects are part of the broader US $1-billion Royal Amplified fleet modernization undertaken by Royal Caribbean.
