Refurbished Quantum of the Seas to homeport in Singapore for longer

Royal Caribbean has announced that Quantum of the Seas will homeport in Singapore for an additional cruise season from October, 2020 to April, 2021.

This comes in addition to the November, 2019 to April, 2020 cruise season previously reported.

When she arrives in Singapore later this year, the lead ship in the cruise line’s ground-breaking Quantum class will be fresh from a major refit that will see her upgraded to appeal to a more international market, as well as India in particular.

This upcoming cruise season out of Singapore later this year has seen strong advance booking, leading Royal Caribbean to extend it for a further seven months.

“Royal Caribbean has big ambitions for Asia – and Singapore sits at the heart of our growth in this region,” said Gavin Smith, Royal Caribbean’s Senior Vice President International.

The additional season for Quantum will add 180,000 cruise passengers to the island’s cruise scene

“The additional homeporting of Quantum of the Seas in the 2020/21 season announced today will add some 180,000 guests to the Singapore cruising scene, and we are excited for them to experience our world-class, innovative ships,” he added.

The ship will be the largest to ever homeport at Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore, and will be the only one of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class ships to homeport in the island nation for so long.

For the coming season, Quantum of the Seas will cruise roundtrip from Singapore 34 times, between November, 2019 and April, 2020. Next year, however, from October, 2020 to April, 2021, she will cruise from Singapore 40 times.

The announcement was timed to coincide with Spectrum of the Seas (the newest of the Quantum-class ships) arriving in Singapore to sail a mini cruise season from the city state before repositioning to Shanghai for her year-round Asian program in June.

This is the first time Royal Caribbean has homeported two Quantum-class cruise ships in Asia.

Bookings for the new additional season for Quantum of the Seas will open on June 3rd, 2019.

The ship is 167,800-gross tons with a guest capacity of more than 4,100 at double occupancy. She was the first to bring the cruise industry robot bar tenders in the Bionic Bar (one of 14 on-board), the first to debut the hugely popular TWO70 Lounge, and at the time of her repositioning cruise to Asia in 2015, she was the largest cruise ship ever to sail from Dubai.

That record was broken by Spectrum of the Seas this year during her own repositioning grand voyage from the Mediterranean to China, with Dubai used as a key midway turnaround port.
