QE2 unveils plans to celebrate The Queen’s 93rd birthday aboard iconic liner

There is perhaps no place in Dubai better suited to celebrating the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II than the ship she named after herself, the iconic QE2.

On April 20th, the Queen’s actual birthday, not her ‘official’ birthday, the ship will play host to “A Very British Birthday” lunch and dinner, along with a special performance by The Band of HM Royal Marines.

Celebrations will take place in both the Lido buffet and the luxurious and super-elegant Queen’s Grill – allowing all manner of British expats and fans of the ship to take part in the celebrations in any way they choose.

The Queen’s Birthday Lunch

In true ‘British expat in Dubai’ tradition, the lunch in the Lido will basically be a brunch, with prices starting at AED195 for adults that comes with one selected beverage, and AED90 for kids younger than 13, with unlimited soft drinks.

If you want to go big in honour of Her Majesty, you can add two hours of unlimited house beverages for AED150.

The brunch starts from 1pm and lasts until 4pm. It features “the best of Blighty” with a hearty roast and giant Yorkshire puddings, British memorabilia and of course plenty of flags and bunting.

After brunch head up onto the upper decks with your flags for a performance by the Band of HM Royal Marines, Plymouth, which will be putting on a display from 4pm until sunset.

The Queen’s Birthday Dinner

For those looking for something a little (actually, a lot) more sophisticated, QE2 Dubai will also be holding a birthday dinner in the Queen’s Grill, the most elegant and luxurious dining room aboard the former ocean liner.

Guests can celebrate with a special five-course tasting menu for AED395. And if you can’t make it for the Queen’s dinner itself, the special menu will run nightly until Friday April 26, starting at 7pm and ending at 11pm.

It wouldn’t be a birthday dinner without some cake, so expect a slice to round off your meal.

There’s plenty going on the QE2 at the moment, including a one-off comedy night brunch showcasing the “best of British comedy” and an Alice in Wonderland-themed brunch with a West End performance featuring Alice, The Mad Hatter and all the creatures from Wonderland.

There’s also after-noon tea every day and of course the QE2 Brunch every Friday.
