Norwegian Cruise Line will debut a new Whitney Houston production aboard Norwegian Aura when the ship enters service in May 2027.
The production Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston is being developed with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music as the headline production for the new ship.
The 45-minute show will be staged in the three-storey Aura Theatre & Club and combine live vocals and a live band with visual effects and performances extending beyond the main stage.
Songs featured in the production will include It’s Not Right, But It’s OK, I Will Always Love You, and I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).
The production follows NCL’s introduction of shows centred on Prince aboard Norwegian Aqua and Elton John aboard Norwegian Luna.
“Every new ship is an opportunity for Norwegian Cruise Line to push the boundaries of what entertainment at sea can be, and with ‘Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston,’ we’re building on the incredible momentum we’ve seen from our Vegas residency-inspired productions celebrating some of music’s most iconic artists,” said Bryan White, Vice President of Entertainment Production, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
“Following the success of our Prince and Elton John productions on Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, respectively, this new show reimagines Whitney’s legendary catalogue through contemporary arrangements, dynamic storytelling, stunning visuals and powerful live performances,” he added.
NCL has also revealed several original entertainment concepts for Norwegian Aura, including ILLUMINOX: Infinite Wonder Unboxed, another 45-minute production for the Aura Theatre & Club combining illusions, acrobatics, original music, and visual effects.
The ship will introduce The Vinyl Republic, a live music collective covering country, rock, funk, blues, and pop. Its headline shows will include The Vinyl Republic’s Journey Through Rock, featuring music by Journey and other material from the arena rock era, and The Vinyl Republic’s Kickin’ It Country, a late-night country music and line-dancing event.
The group will also perform at venues elsewhere aboard the ship, including the Penrose Atrium and Improv at Sea.
LunaTique: Pop Circus, which debuted aboard Norwegian Luna, will return aboard Norwegian Aura with new acts and music. The adults-only combination of cabaret, circus performances, and cocktails will carry an additional charge.
Other entertainment will include Aura FIRST NIGHT, an introductory showcase of the ship’s entertainment programme, and Latin LIVE!, a poolside event featuring live percussion, vocalists, and dance performances.
Norwegian Aura will begin sailing on 21 May 2027 with a seven-day Mediterranean cruise from Trieste to Barcelona, followed by a 13-day transatlantic crossing to Miami.
The ship will then operate seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami between June and October 2027 before switching to Western Caribbean itineraries for the 2027-28 winter season.
