Fincantieri and Viking have signed contracts for two new ocean cruise ships scheduled for delivery in 2032.

The agreement follows Viking’s exercise of options announced in April 2025 and takes the cruise line’s total orderbook with the Italian shipbuilder to 28 vessels.

The two ships will be built at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard and will have a capacity of 988 passengers each. At approximately 54,300 gross tonnes, they will be similar in size and capacity to Viking’s existing ocean-going fleet.

The vessels will be designed to meet environmental and navigation regulations applicable at the time of delivery and will incorporate updated safety systems.

“Today’s agreement marks another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Viking and serves as a powerful testament to the excellence and industrial expertise of our Ancona shipyard,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Fincantieri.

“Over the years, Ancona has proven to be an indispensable production hub for our Group, delivering highly sophisticated cruise ships that set the benchmark for technology, luxury and efficiency. Assigning these new builds to Ancona reinforces the strategic role of the site, supports high-value local employment and ensures long-term industrial continuity for our supply chain as we continue to shape the future of sustainable cruising,” he added.

The agreement remains subject to financing and other customary terms and conditions.

Fincantieri has classified the value of the contracts as “large”, a category the shipbuilder uses for agreements worth between €500 million and €1 billion.

The latest order extends a shipbuilding relationship between Viking and Fincantieri that has developed alongside the cruise line’s expansion in both the ocean and expedition segments.

Earlier in 2026, the companies announced contracts for two new expedition vessels, adding to a pipeline of ships extending into the next decade. With the latest agreement, Viking’s overall orderbook with Fincantieri now stands at 28 ships.

The Italian shipbuilder has delivered a series of vessels for Viking since the cruise line entered the ocean cruise market in 2015. Its ships have followed a largely standardised design, with capacities of around 930 to 1,000 passengers and a focus on maintaining a consistent size across successive newbuilds.

One of the most recent additions, Viking Mira, was also constructed by Fincantieri and began its maiden season in June 2026.

The two vessels announced for 2032 will continue Viking’s fleet expansion into the next decade and provide further work for Fincantieri’s Ancona facility. The contracts also extend the shipyard’s construction schedule at a time when major cruise operators are placing newbuild orders for delivery into the 2030s. Further details about the two ships, including their names, individual delivery dates, and planned deployments, have not yet been announced.
