Norwegian Cruise Line has reached a key stage in the construction of its next newbuild, with Norwegian Aura touching water for the first time at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The float-out marks the completion of the ship’s external hull and signals the transition to interior outfitting, a process that will continue over the coming months as the vessel moves into the next phase of development ahead of its planned debut in May 2027.
As part of maritime tradition, two ceremonial coins were welded into the hull during the event, a practice intended to symbolise safe passage for the vessel and those on board.

Norwegian Aura will become the largest ship in the line’s fleet on delivery, measuring approximately 170,000 gross tonnes and extending to nearly 1,130 feet in length. The vessel will accommodate around 3,880 guests at double occupancy across more than 1,970 staterooms, representing an increase in scale compared with earlier ships in the Prima class.
“Norwegian Aura’s float out is a proud and meaningful moment for our entire team,” said Marc Kazlauskas, President, Norwegian Cruise Line. “She builds on the legacy of our award-winning Prima Class while taking our commitment to thoughtfully designed guest-first experiences even further.”
“Created in close partnership with Fincantieri, the ship is purposefully constructed to deliver an elevated, multi-generational vacation experience, with expansive outdoor spaces like Ocean Heights, that bring families and friends together for fun-filled days,” he added. “With her flexible, open-air design, Norwegian Aura is exceptionally well suited for Caribbean itineraries, offering the perfect balance of high-energy fun, relaxation, and an effortless escape for guests of all ages.”
The ship’s design places a strong emphasis on outdoor and shared social spaces, including a new activity complex known as Ocean Heights, which is positioned as a central hub for multi-generational use. The area will incorporate water-based attractions, climbing elements, and entertainment features designed to transition between daytime and evening use.
Pool deck space has been expanded by more than 20% compared with earlier ships in the class, with additional seating, an extra hot tub, and a dedicated children’s aqua park. An extended Ocean Boulevard will wrap around the vessel on deck eight, increasing the availability of outdoor seating and social areas, while a series of age-specific zones will cater to different passenger groups, including younger children and teenagers.
Following its delivery, Norwegian Aura is scheduled to enter service with a seven-day Mediterranean itinerary departing Trieste on May 21st, 2027, before undertaking a 14-day transatlantic crossing to the United States.
Norwegian Aura will then homeport in Miami from June 10th, 2027, operating a series of seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings through March 2028.
The Caribbean deployment will include calls to the company’s private destinations, including Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize.
Enhancements at Great Stirrup Cay are expected to be in place by the time of the ship’s arrival, including a new multi-ship pier, expanded pool facilities, and additional attractions aimed at increasing capacity and improving passenger flow on shore.
