Holland America eclipse sailing
Holland America Line has unveiled its full 2027/28 Legendary Voyages programme, introducing a new slate of long-duration itineraries ranging from 25 to 59 days and spanning multiple regions, including the Caribbean, Europe, South America, the South Pacific and the Amazon.
The season includes the cruise line’s first Caribbean-based Legendary Voyage, alongside new themed sailings such as the 28-day Pan Am 100 Years Legendary Voyage and the 28-day Legendary Solar Eclipse & Cosmic Port Explorer.
These itineraries sit alongside returning long-haul sailings, including the 47-day Ultimate Mediterranean & Atlantic Passage and a revised 28-day Legendary Amazon Explorer sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale in January 2028.
The Caribbean-based Legendary Voyage marks a first for the programme, which has historically focused on Europe, the Americas, and transoceanic routes.
The Pan Am anniversary sailing retraces historic Clipper routes across the Caribbean, Mexico, and Latin America, while the solar eclipse itinerary is timed to coincide with a rare celestial event visible at sea off the coast of Morocco.
“Our guests are always looking for adventures that feel personal and unforgettable, whether that’s following the paths of ancient explorers, watching a solar eclipse at sea or spending unhurried time in some of the world’s most storied cities,” said Paul Grigsby, Vice President of Deployment and Itinerary Planning, Holland America Line.
“These new Legendary Voyages tap deeply into those desires, blending historic routes, rare access and extraordinary port time with the premium onboard experience our long-time cruisers return for again and again,” he added.
Across the programme, the itineraries are designed to allow for extended time ashore, with late-night calls and overnights in key ports forming a central part of the offering.
The voyages are structured around specific geographic or thematic narratives, ranging from heritage and exploration to astronomy and remote island travel, with durations extending well beyond conventional cruise lengths.
The 2027/28 Legendary Voyages span Alaska, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, South America, and the Amazon basin.
Several sailings draw inspiration from historic routes operated by the company during the early 20th century, reflecting its long-established presence in extended and destination-intensive cruising.
Onboard, the longer itineraries are accompanied by curated programming intended to reflect the regions visited and the length of the voyages. This includes themed events, cultural performances, a resident classical ensemble, creative workshops, and religious services.
Premium elements such as commemorative materials and formal events are also included as standard features of the Legendary Voyages experience.
Legendary Voyages sit between Holland America Line’s Grand Voyages and shorter regional itineraries, combining extended sailing time with a focus on a single region or theme.
The company positions the programme as offering deeper engagement with destinations through itinerary design and onboard content rather than simply covering long distances.
The newly announced sailings will operate across multiple vessels in the fleet between mid-2027 and early 2028, with departures from ports including New York, Miami, Rotterdam, Dover, Seattle, Boston, San Diego, Sydney, and Fort Lauderdale.
