Holland America Line, Pan Am recreate golden age of travel with grand Caribbean cruise

Holland America Line has announced a partnership with Pan Am to launch a month-long Caribbean voyage retracing the routes of the airline’s iconic Clipper flying boats.

The 28-day Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage, departing October 30th, 2027, aboard Zuiderdam, will celebrate a century of Pan Am’s pioneering spirit while reflecting Holland America Line’s own 150-year heritage.

The voyage, described as a tribute to the golden age of travel, will sail from Miami, Pan Am’s historic home base, and follow the airline’s original Great Circle Route through the Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America.

Zuiderdam

Zuiderdam will visit 18 ports of call across 10 countries, including nine that featured on Pan Am’s early flight paths.

Passengers will experience a journey shaped by both nostalgia and discovery, visiting destinations such as Nassau in the Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Willemstad in Curaçao, Port of Spain in Trinidad, and St John’s in Antigua, before continuing to Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, and Mexico.

The itinerary is designed to reflect the exploratory nature of early Clipper operations, which connected distant cultures long before widespread commercial air travel.

Paul Grigsby, Holland America Line’s vice president of itinerary planning and deployment, said the collaboration between the two brands was a natural fit.

Holland America’s partnership with Pan Am pays tribute to the golden age of travel

“Pan Am and Holland America Line both helped pioneer modern travel, Pan Am in the skies and Holland America Line at sea,” he said. “This collaboration is a tribute to the golden age of travel and humanity’s enduring drive to explore.”

The voyage will feature period-inspired décor, themed events, and historical programming celebrating Pan Am’s legacy. Guests will also be able to enjoy themed menus and experiences designed to evoke the luxury and elegance of mid-20th century travel, when Pan Am’s Clipper aircraft set new standards in comfort and service.

The initiative forms part of Holland America Line’s wider celebration of American heritage in the lead-up to the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. Other events include a special commemorative sailing from Boston on July 4th, 2026, alongside partnerships with several iconic American brands.

Kacy Cole, the cruise line’s chief marketing officer, said the collaboration reflects shared values of innovation and adventure. “As a cruise line with more than 150 years of history, we have a deep appreciation for brands that helped shape the American story,” she said. “By partnering with legendary names like Pan Am, we’re honouring the spirit of exploration that defines the nation.”
