Explora Journeys, the luxury ocean travel brand of the MSC Group, has unveiled a new interpretation of its Owner’s Residence through a collaboration with architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.
The redesigned residence will debut aboard EXPLORA III in summer 2026 and EXPLORA IV in 2027, adding a second Owner’s Residence to each ship.
EXPLORA III will be the first vessel in the fleet to feature two Owner’s Residences, with Urquiola’s design introduced on voyages including a Mediterranean prelude in late July, a maiden voyage from Barcelona to Lisbon in early August, and itineraries in Northern Europe, Iceland, and Greenland later in the year.

Located aft on Decks 7 and 8, the Owner’s Residences are the largest accommodation categories onboard EXPLORA III. Each residence offers 280 square metres of total space, including a 125-square-metre terrace spanning the full width of the ship.
The Owner’s Residence by Patricia Urquiola is positioned on Deck 7 and features uninterrupted views over the stern, with oversized windows framing the ocean. The interior covers 155 square metres and includes a combined living and dining area and an ensuite bedroom.
“Patricia’s work reflects a sensibility naturally aligned with Explora Journeys,” said Anna Nash, President, Explora Journeys. “She understands how considered design can evoke emotion and how the right balance of light, texture, and form immediately imbues a sense of ease.
“This is central to our Ocean State of Mind, which invites guests to slow down and feel fully connected to their surroundings. In the Owner’s Residence, Patricia has translated that philosophy into spaces that feel generous, grounded and deeply attuned to the sea.”
The design draws on Mediterranean influences, using earthy tones, natural textures, and sun-warmed neutrals. Furnishings include pieces by Cassina, Kettal, and Moroso, with several items designed by Urquiola herself.
Materials such as bronze metals, Cipollino, and Travertino marble, ribbed woods, oak parquet, and terracotta elements are layered to create a tactile interior that responds to changing light conditions.
A continuous sculpted marble boiserie extends for nearly 90 linear metres, connecting interior spaces, and enhancing the flow between rooms.
The bedroom includes a bespoke king-sized bed, a dressing room, and a marble bathroom with double vanity, bathtub, rain shower, and steam room.
Living and dining areas feature custom-designed furniture, a bar counter with seating, a guest powder room, and a private pantry. Lighting elements by Denis Castaing and Franco Albini are integrated throughout the residence.
The terrace includes a whirlpool, outdoor dining area, and lounge seating. The residence can accommodate up to four adults when connected to an Ocean Terrace Suite and includes the services of a dedicated Residence Manager and team.
The introduction of the Owner’s Residence by Patricia Urquiola forms part of Explora Journeys’ broader approach to onboard design as the fleet continues to expand over the coming years.
