Viking 2027/28 World Cruise itinerary to feature overnight in Cape Town

Viking has announced details of its 2027-2028 World Cruise itineraries, with Cape Town among the ports scheduled for an overnight stay.

Viking Vesta will depart Fort Lauderdale on December 28th, 2027 for a 142-day voyage, sailing across six continents before concluding in London on May 18th, 2028.

The itinerary includes 31 countries, 62 guided tours, and 16 overnight calls in ports such as Sydney, Singapore, Zanzibar, Casablanca, and Cape Town.

“Our approach has always been different. At Viking, we always focus on the destination,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.

“Our World Cruises are thoughtfully designed to offer the opportunity to experience dozens of fascinating destinations around the world in one seamless voyage—these epic voyages are truly the ultimate in exploration,” he added.

The main itinerary will see Viking Vesta cross Central America and transit the Panama Canal, before calling at ports along the west coast of North America. The ship will then cross the Pacific, with visits to Hawaii and French Polynesia, including Tahiti.

Further ports of call include New Zealand and Australia, before continuing through Southeast Asia and Africa. The cruise will then conclude in Europe with calls at several major capitals.

Cape Town is one of a number of cities where passengers will be able to disembark for a deeper exploration of the local culture.

Overnight stays in South Africa’s Mother City are designed to give guests the opportunity to experience Table Mountain, the Cape Winelands and the broader Western Cape region. Viking also noted that African calls will include options for wildlife safari excursions.

For those seeking longer journeys, Viking is offering several alternatives. The 170-day Viking World Voyage III will continue from London to Stockholm, adding 21 ports of call across Northern Europe and Scandinavia.

The 153-day Viking World Voyage IV, departing from Los Angeles, will include 37 countries before concluding in Stockholm. A shorter 125-day Viking World Discoveries voyage, also departing Los Angeles, will visit 27 countries and end in London.

Onboard, guests will have access to cultural enrichment programmes, including lectures from Viking Resident Historians. Viking said that included shore excursions will provide opportunities to connect with local traditions and communities, while optional overland tours will allow deeper exploration inland.

Examples include multi-day trips to Australia’s Uluru and Great Barrier Reef, India’s Golden Triangle, and South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
